International Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation (IBSF) is launching it's Athlete Mentor Program, aimed at empowering our Olympic Senior athletes to mentor and support the next generation of athletes. ✨ “It’s about using our most experienced competitors to help our youth transition athletes overcome the challenges they may face, not only in their sporting journey but also in life. It’s going to be especially crucial in these next few months as they transition from the Youth program into senior-level competitions." explained Nicola Minichiello, IBSF Academy Manager. In 2009, Nicola became the first British female bobsleigh driver to win a World Championships (2009) and is a three-time Olympian. After her retirement from the sport, she began working with the IBSF, leading on Youth and development programs, outside of the IBSF, she worked as an Athlete mentor for various charities, using the power of sport to help young people in their life journey. “Most athletes are eager to use the power of sport to help drive social change, and our new program provides them with the opportunity to do exactly that. I believe that both sides will hugely benefit from this experience – our senior athletes as well as our future generation.” Kaillie Humphries, Olympic and World Bobsleigh Champion, said: “Mentors are so important, nobody reaches their goals and dreams alone. I was lucky enough to have Pierre Lueders mentor me when I was young, and because of that, I am who I am today. Being able to pass along or receive knowledge, wisdom and guidance for all aspects of sport and real life is invaluable. I’m so excited to be a part of this new IBSF mentoring program because I know the magic that can happen when you’re mentored by someone amazing along the journey.” The initial pairings, due to be matched by language, discipline and interests, will begin their work together during the 2024/2025 Winter season. Applications by senior athletes can be filled in until November 26. 📅 More information about the program & application can be found: https://lnkd.in/dK8Y5AnE #IBSF #IBSFAcademy #slidingtogether
