Info

The International Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation (IBSF), originally Fédération Internationale de Bobsleigh et de Tobogganing (FIBT) was founded on November 23, 1923 by the delegates of Great Britain, France and Switzerland, and the representatives of Canada and the United States, meeting at an International Congress in Paris, France. The name change from FIBT to IBSF has been announced at the Federation's Congress in Ghent/Belgium in June 2015. The IBSF headquarter is in Lausanne, Switzerland. The IBSF conducts competitions in 8 disciplines: 2-man Bobsleigh, 4-man Bobsleigh, Women’s Bobsleigh, Monobob, Men’s Skeleton and Women’s Skeleton, Para-skeleton and Para-bobsleigh. In addition to the Olympic Winter games and World Championships, the IBSF conducts World Cup, Europe Cup, Intercontinental Cup and North American Cup events, as well as relatively new events – Youth Series (including Youth Olympic Games) and Para-sport events.

  • The Women's Skeleton World Championships are celebrating their 25th birthday. On February 12/13, 2000, the title was awarded for the first time on the Olympic track in Innsbruck-Igls. After four runs, Steffi Hanzlik from Germany entered the history books as the first female World Champion. Silver went to Mellisa Hollingsworth from Canada, bronze was won by Tricia Stumpf from the USA. A total of 17 participants from eleven nations took part in the event. ✨ In 1995, the international federation allowed men's and women's skeleton to be an official discipline alongside women's bobsleigh. The World Federation then intensified its efforts with regard to women's bobsleigh and skeleton. The Canadian Robert F. Storey, President of the World Federation at the time, appointed the Swiss Heinz Thoma as Skeleton Coordinator. On October 2, 1999, the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) included women's and men's skeleton as well as women's bobsleigh in the program for the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. • Seven years ago, the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games ❄️ were in full swing. These Games have provided for some amazing legacies as we highlight with our story about young, ambitious and inspiring bobsledder  Agnese Campeol from Thailand. Agnese benefits from a program of the PyeongChang 2018 & Gangwon 2024 Legacy Foundation as well as from additional assistance from the International Olympic Committee – IOC 's Olympic Solidarity program. With her extraordinary talent and hard work she won silver in women’s monobob at Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Korea when she was 17.  One year on, she just finished third overall in the 2-woman bobsleigh at the North American Cup 2024/2025 and now has her sights on participating in the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games. On her side as mentor through a dedicated IBSF program - one of bobsleigh’s greats and Agnese’s biggest role model: Kaillie Armbruster Humphries from the United States, five-time World Champion, four-time Olympic medallist and first women’s monobob Olympic champion at Beijing 2022.
