We improve and accelerate the development and integration of scientific knowledge into health care.
Info
The Institute for Implementation Science in Health Care contributes to the optimization of health care, digital innovation, and improved translation of evidence into practice. Our implementation science teaching, research and training aims to accelerate the integration of research findings into health care and embed them in a sustainable way, as well as removing low-value practices from health care. Our digital health teaching, research and training aims to optimize digital innovation in clinics and create digital interventions to improve community health and well-being. Our interdisciplinary team covers a wide range of research fields. Our focus lies on implementation science in health care and nursing, digital and mobile health, digital health interventions, and medical knowledge and decision support. There are a number of research studies headed by IfIS researchers in areas such as infectious diseases, hospital epidemiology, cancer screening, nursing science, family support interventions and multiple sclerosis. We train researchers to apply implementation science in their fields of expertise. In doing so, we support local implementation capacity building. This takes the form of masterclasses and consultation on implementation science projects.

🏥 New international grounded theory study from our Nursing Science Group: The COVID-19 pandemic led to visitation restrictions in long-term care (LTC) facilities, significantly impacting family caregivers of persons living with dementia. A new qualitative study, conducted across five countries (United States, Switzerland, Hong Kong, United Kingdom, and Japan), explores how caregivers navigated these challenges. Findings reveal that families faced exclusion, isolation, and distress, witnessing residents' despair. The study identifies ‘negotiating for access to maintain relational continuity’ as a key process, highlighting the need for policies that foster partnership and inclusion rather than treating family members as mere visitors. This research underscores the importance of social interactions for health and well-being, advocating for policy changes that prioritize relational care in public health crises. We are pleased to share that Christina Haag #IfIS has been awarded the UZH Career Grant UZH Graduate Campus for her innovative project "Developing Evidence-Based Sample Size Recommendations for Large Language Model-Based Analyses". The project focuses on developing sample size recommendations for Large Language Models (LLMs)-based classifier training using data from #healthresearch, including the Swiss Multiple Sclerosis Registry. Traditional power analysis methods are not applicable to LLM-based analyses, making this work essential for addressing this challenge. Through systematic experimentation with real and synthetic data, Christina’s project will provide the scientific community with evidence-based guidelines for sample size estimation and lay the foundation for future advancements in LLM-based methodologies. #UZH #ImplementationScience #DigitalHealth #careergrant
