Safety is aviation's top priority. IATA's Annual Safety Report reveals continuous long-term improvement, although 2024 was a step back from exceptional performance in 2023. The all-accident rate of 1.13 per million flights was better than the five-year average of 1.25 but worse than the 1.09 recorded in 2023. Tail strikes and runway excursions were the most frequently reported incidents in 2024, underscoring the importance of take-off and landing safety measures. “Even with recent high profile aviation accidents, it is important to remember that accidents are extremely rare. A decade ago, the five-year average (2011-2015) was one accident for every 456,000 flights. Today, the five-year average (2020-2024) is one accident for every 810,000 flights. That improvement is because we know that every fatality is one too many. We honor the memory of every life lost in an aviation accident with our deepest sympathies and ever greater resolve to make flying even safer.” said Willie Walsh, IATA’s Director General. The growing importance of #data partnership across #aviation was the focus of the CEO Panel at #IATAWDS. Here's what panelists said: 🗣️ Lynne Embleton CEO, Aer Lingus: “Data standards and sharing protocols will make everybody’s life easier. But we have to move quickly. There will be third parties looking at how they can exploit industry data.” 🗣️ Lauri Reishus, President and CEO, Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC): “The value of datasets is maximized when they are combined in a trusted and transparent manner.” 🗣️ Willie Walsh, CEO, International Air Transport Association (IATA) “Airlines can’t do everything and will rely on trusted partners. But it is the balance that is crucial. Data will enhance decision-making and make the industry better; so the more data that airlines control, the better. But airlines must also recognize they can’t do it all themselves.” For more details: https://bit.ly/4ieOi06 #aviation #data #technology #collaboration #partnership

Air travel in China got off to a strong 2025, with travelers from China taking more than 26,2 million trips by air for Chinese New Year. That is a rise of 4% over 2024. Recent IATA data, representing 80% of travel undertaken during the period, showed that while most travel was within China, a growing number of travelers took the opportunity to travel aboard. A surprise this year was an almost 50% rise in number travelers from China visiting Japan, propelling the country to the top destination in 2025. Hong Kong and Singapore also saw strong double-digit increases while Thailand slid down the ranking with fewer Chinese visitors this year. Take a look at some of the key highlights in the video. The proposed Article 8 revision of the UN Model Convention could have a negative impact on international aviation #taxation. Airlines may soon face double taxation, adding administrative burdens and costs that would increase airfares for travelers, reduce global connectivity, and weaken trade and tourism in the Least Developed Countries (LDCs). IATA is joining the International Civil Aviation Organization in calling for States to raise their concerns to the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), within which the UN Tax Committee operates. The average amount of cabin waste generated per passenger per flight is ___kg❓ Effective waste management is critical to the air transport industry's efforts to achieve a circular economy and minimize its environmental impact. A 2023/24 audit showed significant differences in cabin waste depending on flight length. Overall, the audit revealed an average cabin waste of 237.3 kilograms per flight, or 0.94 kilograms per passenger. Airlines can significantly reduce waste disposal costs by emphasizing reuse, recycling, and recovery principles and actively monitoring and taking steps to address waste generation. And although progress has been made, achieving a circular economy in cabin waste will require additional and ongoing efforts, which incorporate regulatory approaches that facilitate the implementation of zero-waste to landfill practices.
