Since last year, ISS has provided technical assistance to the national authorities in Morocco to help them strengthen their child protection systems, sharing best practices and tools. This week, ISS, Olivier Geissler Wiem Guedira Mouloud El Kamel, facilitated a three-day workshop on the development of standard operating procedures for the protection of all #vulnerable children, bringing together #childprotection officials and civil society representatives. Together with its partners, UNICEF Maroc and the national authorities, ISS aims to consolidate the Moroccan child protection system, and build stronger connections between the judicial and social protection systems. Info
The International Social Service was founded in Geneva, Switzerland, almost 100 years ago in 1924 by a group of people wanting to find durable solutions for individuals and families migrating to the Americas after World War 1. We are now a network of ISS members present in more than 120 countries with a General Secretariat in Geneva providing coordination, training and capacity building. For the last 97 years, ISS has carried out cross border social casework protecting families and children separated by borders. So what exactly do we do? - We provide socio-legal assistance to families and children separated by borders - We protect children placed in vulnerable situations or deprived of their families often for reasons they cannot grasp (economic, social, child abuse, child trafficking, divorce) - We evaluate national child protection frameworks and advocate for laws that are always in the best interests of the child - We provide tailored technical advice and training of professionals with a special focus on intercountry adoption, alternative care, surrogacy and donor conceived persons - We offer training to all major stakeholders involved in child protection

Our extensive field experience and expertise in #postadoption services, particularly in cross-border access to records, information, search and reunion, allows ISS to work on many fronts. Thanks to our worldwide network, ISS is able to provide #support and #tracing services in a #challenging multinational context where several ISS members and partners are involved. Our goal is to provide complementary services to those provided by various governmental entities. Interested in collaborating with us or learning more about our services? Knowing where one came from is a natural desire that many people have – not just those who are adopted. Each #child has a right to #identity as expressed in Article 7 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Identity encompasses the family name, the surname, date of #birth, #gender and #nationality of the individual. Respecting this right requires robust #preservation of information about one’s origins – at the very least, registration of birth, including, at a minimum, the time and place of birth, and information on the birth mother. ISS strives to defend the right to #identity and strengthen specialised #searchfororigins cross border services as they play a significant role in supporting #authorities, #individuals and their #families in this process. All children, also #childrenwithdisabilities, have the right to the best possible start in life. However, children with disabilities face multiple #obstacles such as #discrimination and limited access to #health care and #education, and they are more likely to grow up in #institutions resulting in increased risk of neglect and abuse. ISS has been working with several national authorities and partners to make sure that children with disabilities also have a chance to a bright #future by growing up in a #family environment. In Côte d'Ivoire, together with NGO Vie Saine, ISS France Droit d'Enfance and Service Social International - Afrique de l'Ouest (SSI-AO), ISS has been providing technical assistance to the Child Welfare Authorities to prevent family separation at the community level and promote #familyreintegration and #fostercare for children with disabilities through dedicated tools, adapted procedures, and training of the #socialworkforce. In 2023-2024, 970 community volunteers have been trained. This February, ISS will continue its technical assistance to Côte d'Ivoire. Follow us and stay tuned!
