Info
The iPrint institute is active in the field of digital printing with a clear focus on inkjet technology. It contributes to the technology transfer between the innovation in fundamental, precompetitive and applied research and their application in a wide range of domains in the industry as well from a material point of view as for processes and products. It supports its local, national and international partners in all domains, where digital printing and coating technology can be used for production processes toward digital direct manufacturing in the context of industry 4.0. In addition to its research activities, the iPrint Institute provides training and education in the field of inkjet. Featuring permanently installed dedicated labs and training platforms, the training course program entitled “The Inkjet Training” offers hands-on lab experiences to participants from all over the world. The first level is the Foundation Course, which imparts introductory knowledge in inkjet engineering and chemistry. Participants in this course will emerge with a broadened knowledge base and a capacity for interdisciplinary communication. Advanced learners can attend one of the Masterclass courses, which offer higher-level training in specific areas of expertise.

𝗩𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗿 𝗩𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁? 🤯 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁! It happens so often that when a collaborator wants to talk about one of them, they have to find their own trick to distinguish who it is. Meet our two talented Vincents: 𝗩𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗡𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗿 (𝗹𝗲𝗳𝘁): Vincent completed his apprenticeship as an electronics technician in Fribourg. After earning his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with a focus on electronics in 2018, he worked for two years at the Institute for Intelligent and Secure Systems (iSIS). He developed a passion for additive manufacturing, specifically FDM 3D printers, and fully developed his own open-source 3D printer in 2021. Vincent joined the iPrint team as an R&D engineer over two years ago and now manages several projects. His knowledge in electronics and automation is a great asset to our team. 𝗩𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗲𝘂𝘄𝗹𝘆 (𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁): After completing his apprenticeship as an electronics technician at Meggitt, Vincent continued his studies and obtained a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering at the School of Engineering and Architecture of Fribourg, followed by a Master's degree in Embedded Systems. He has been with iPrint for almost seven years, working alongside his studies. His extensive knowledge and experience in automation and electronics, particularly in inkjet applications, are invaluable. Vincent has also accumulated significant expertise in dropwatching and printing optimization through various projects. So, next time you hear "Vincent," you might need to ask, "Which one?" 😄

🤝 Thanks to the Adolphe Merkle Institute for sharing the results of this joint research with iPrint!
Researchers from the Adolphe Merkle Institute’s Polymer Chemistry and Materials group (Université de Fribourg - Universität Freiburg) are excited to share the results of their collaboration with the iPrint team at the College of Engineering and Architecture of Fribourg! They have developed multimaterial, mechanochromic #polymer films with pre-programmed stiffness profiles made via the #inkjet #printing of polymer inks containing a mechanochromic additive. This approach allows the fabrication of mechanoresponsive materials with spatially tailored properties, which could be useful as adaptive strain sensors and for biomedical applications such as directing and mapping cell growth. We had the pleasure of hosting Jules Mathieu Richardot from Professor Sungjune Jung’s group at Pohang University of Science and Technology at iPrint Institute. His research was focused on the investigation of the advanced rheological behavior of nanoparticle-based inks. We look forward to continuing this exciting collaboration! Are you a researcher interested in accessing our state-of-the-art infrastructure for inkjet research? Feel free to contact us! #inkjet #rheology #inks #Nanoparticles #TriPAV #TriMaster
Engineer in Mechanical and Autonomous Systems from French Grandes Ecoles. Ph.D. candidate at POSTECH, in Materials Science and Engineering department.
As a French Mechanical #engineer and PhD student currently pursuing my research in #Korea, with the support, help, and guidance of my professor and advisor Sungjune Jung, I had the opportunity to spend the last six months at the iPrint Center in #Switzerland, where I focused on advanced rheological studies and nanoparticle-based materials. This experience has been informative, transformative, and enriching in terms of both my research and my personal growth, especially in this era where the use of more complex (nanoparticle-based) fluids is growing exponentially. In terms of research, I had the privilege of working with cutting-edge equipment from TRIJET LIMITED, founded by Tri Tuladhar, including the TriPAV and TriMaster systems, as well as the jetting system from Droptimize along with industrial #printhead. These technologies were instrumental in analyzing the #flow properties of #nanoparticle suspensions and investigating their behavior under various conditions (shear and extensional flow conditions). This collaboration enabled me to gain a deeper understanding of #rheological properties and #jetting dynamics, particularly in the context of #nanoparticle formulations for applications such as #display, #semiconductors, or even #biology-related fields, where the understanding of nanoparticles is mandatory for facing current and future industrial challenges. I was able to gain valuable insights into how these materials behave in complex environments, which will contribute directly to the development of more precise models for industrial applications. The results of this work will be a significant contribution to my upcoming publication. From a personal and professional standpoint, the support and mentorship I received at iPrint Center from Gioele Balestra, Yoshinori Domae, and Gilbert Arthur Gugler were invaluable. Collaborating with experts in both #rheology and #nanoparticle #jetting technologies not only enhanced my academic expertise but also honed my abilities in working across interdisciplinary, cross-cultural teams, with a direct industrial link. This collaboration between my laboratory at Pohang University of Science and Technology, iPrint Center, and myself has been highly productive, and I am optimistic about the future! #PhDLife #ResearchCollaboration #IprintCenter #Rheology #Nanoparticles #TriPAV #TriMaster #Droptimize #InternationalExperience #Switzerland #Korea #MaterialsScience #ProfessionalGrowth #Mentorship
