Swiss Federal Office of Energy supports HSG project “Rolling Solar Storage” The “Rolling Solar Storage” (ROAST) project will support companies and their employees to integrate electric vehicle (EV) adoption with solar energy uptake through smart EV charging strategies. The ROAST project will provide scientifically-rigorous empirical insights, as well as policy tools and managerial strategies. This will include 💡 Policy Recommendations 🌱 Corporate Sustainability Strategies 💭 Consumer Insights The project will be led by Prof. Dr Rolf Wüstenhagen and Postdoctoral Researcher Cristian Pons-Seres de Brauwer from the HSG Institute for Economy and the Environment, and it will count with the support of industry partners AMAG Group and Azienda Elettrica di Massagno (AEM) SA . 🌍 Driving Change, One Step at a Time 🌟 How do we create meaningful, lasting change in the communities around us? 🌱 Last night, the #SuM bachelor students at Universität St.Gallen (HSG) showcased their inspiring ideas to tackle global challenges with local solutions. Creating bold visions for alternative futures, they mapped ecosystems and used backcasting to establish milestones to mark the way there. From circular economy to health and biodiversity, they explored what it takes to make local, regional impact on global grand challenges - and how to take the next steps from their spheres of influence. 💡 Where better to explore this than #OFFCUT in St.Gallen? This vibrant space exemplifies the power of collective action and highlights the potential—and challenges—of building a truly circular society. It was a reminder that impactful change isn’t just about ideas but also about addressing systemic gaps and working together toward solutions. 🙌 to the growing #SuM community: To our brilliant students, dedicated faculty, and the incredible network here in St.Gallen—you embody the spirit of collaboration and innovation needed to shift systems. On Monday, our university celebrated a PhD graduation. I am so proud of Dr. Gift Dembetembe, who successfully completed his PhD on sustainability in the context of multiple institutional logics. His empirical settings included artisanal and small scale mining in Zimbabwe and how S&P 500 organizations respond to conflicting institutional logics for sustainability. Hailing from Zimbabwe, Gift secured an ESKAS scholarship to join the HSG, and gained am impressive command of German during his stay with us. His easy going personality means he is universally loved by us all at HSG Institute for Economy and the Environment. I am just so impressed and inspired by Gift and cherish the time he has shared with us. And I wish him all the best in the world especially on his new role as post-doc at the University of Fribourg. Thank you Gift, for crossing paths.

𝙷𝚘𝚠 𝚍𝚘 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚠𝚛𝚒𝚝𝚎 𝚊 𝚙𝚘𝚜𝚝 𝚕𝚒𝚔𝚎 𝚝𝚑𝚒𝚜? 🤔 It’s a big moment—after all, you don’t graduate with a PhD every day! I guess I'll just trust my intuition on this one. 😊 (Thank you for the inspiration, Dr. Melanie Oschlies!)   Ten years after my first day as an Assessment Year student at the Universität St.Gallen (HSG), I attended my 𝗣𝗵𝗗 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘆 yesterday. It was a truly surreal/increadible moment—being called "𝘋𝘳. 𝘑𝘶𝘭𝘪𝘢 𝘓𝘰𝘥𝘦𝘳" for the first time brought up so many emotions! 😲   While the title is nice, it’s not the most precious thing I've gained from this journey. What I treasure more are the 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀, 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲, and most importantly, the 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 I met along the way. 🎉 (One of those amazing people being Gift Dembetembe, who graduated with me yesterday! #IWÖpower 💪😄 And of course an enormous shoutout to my inspiring supervisors and PhD committee members, Rolf Wüstenhagen, Frédéric Varone and Charlotta Sirén 👏)   At the end of the day, what I'd reallly like to share here with all the PhD students to come is the following: Academia often tells us to narrow our focus, but I’ve found it invaluable to 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗹𝗲𝗳𝘁, 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁, 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 in research. It opened doors to new ideas and lifelong friendships (shoutout to the #Ice-skating-hiking-gang 🏞️❄️🥰). 💡 If I were to give other PhD students any advice, it would be the following: ▶️ 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲 with other scholars and students. ▶️ 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 your work and seek feedback, even when your work feels unfinished. (And of course, from time to time, return the favour to other PhD students 😉). ▶️ 𝗜𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 in the learning experience, and if you're passionate about your research field, the journey will be worth it. ▶️ But also, remember to 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 "𝗻𝗼𝗻-𝗣𝗵𝗗 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱" with friends and family—it’s often been just what I needed to clear a mental roadblock.   To those who’ve been my safe space, my 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗿 throughout this journey: Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Without your unwavering support, I wouldn’t be where I am today. ❤️   𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 to all the other PhD graduates! 🎓🎊 And to those still on the path—𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴! 💪   #PhDGraduation #Doctorate #NewBeginnings #Academia #Thankyou #Grateful
