  • 😶🌫️ Why we can't think straight when stressed When stressed, we might feel shaky in our stomach area, our throat tightens or we clench our jaw. These are old but very effective reactions of our body. 👉 Here's the deal: In a tense conversation, our active #amygdala can block the connection to our prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain responsible for thinking things through. This makes us lose our ability to make complex decisions and see things from different angles. 👉 When this happens, it's like our logical thinking goes offline. We might feel stuck, only seeing things from our point of view and thinking we're completely right. It's as if our brain goes into a narrow-focused mode. During an argument, it's also hard to remember good times with the other person. Our brain is more focused on dealing with the immediate situation than digging up memories. So, we often react automatically, driven by this old survival mechanism, before we even have a chance to think about other possible responses. That's why they call this reaction a #hijack.
