🧠 Did You Know? 🧠 An international consortium of researchers identify the first genetic risk factor associated with longer-term outcomes and progression in Multiple Sclerosis (MS). 🌎 This study of more than 22,000 people with MS is the first to provide evidence for the role of genetic factors in MS disease severity. 🚨 This genetic factor accelerates the disability progression by almost 4 years. 🎯 This collaborative effort provides the scientific community with potential new targets for drug development. 📣 Effective treatments targeting progression remain a major unmet need. 🧠 Understanding Multiple Sclerosis (MS) 🧠 MS is a chronic autoimmune disease affecting the central nervous system. It damages the communication between the brain and the rest of the body. DID YOU KNOW? 🌎 MS affects 2.3 million people worldwide with hight impact in their daily life 🇨🇭 18’000 people with MS in Switzerland 🚺 Women are 3 times more likely to develop MS than men Sources Schweizerische Multiple Sklerose Gesellschaft and National MS Society 📣 Do you live in Switzerland and does one of your family members have multiple sclerosis? 🧠 Preventing Alzheimer’s Disease is possible: FINGER is an ongoing multi-center randomized controlled trial testing the effect of a multidomain intervention in delaying cognitive impairment and disability in elderly persons at increased risk of dementia. This study is spearheaded by Tiia Ngandu and Miia Kivipelto from the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) and Karolinska Institutet. https://lnkd.in/dHX4dNfJ 🌎 The FINGER trial has now extended to 68 countries, forming the World-Wide FINGERS (WW-FINGERS) Network coordinated by the FINGERS Brain Health Institute. It comprises several studies with local adaptations from the original FINGER trial. For instance, the Alzheimer's Association® is managing the U.S. POINTER study in the U.S. in which the interventions and outcome assessments are harmonized with FINGER. 💡 Over a longer post-intervention follow-up, the FINGER intervention also resulted in less cerebrovascular events https://lnkd.in/dW28Rqds 💪 You can TAKE ACTION now for your health and your loved ones! It is possible to delay Alzheimer’s disease and neurodegeneration. ▶ Swipe to discover the results of the first trial in the world on Alzheimer’s disease’s prevention and the measures you can take. #Alzheimersdisease #AlzheimersResearch #Prevention #Neurodegeneration #Aging #BrainHealth #LIRM #Healthcare #Research ____________________________________________ The LIRM is a non-profit organization dedicated to improve care for aging patients through innovation.

🧠 Did You Know? 🧠 Multiple sclerosis is 3 times more common among women than men and is more prevalent in women of childbearing age than in any other age group. (Source National MS Society) ❓ Why are women more affected by MS? Several factors may explain it: • sex hormones • different genes on female sex chromosomes • differences in microbiota bacterial species • complex interplay between sex and environment 💡 Interested in learning more? ➡ Read the review «Why Is Multiple Sclerosis More Frequent in Women? Role of the Immune System and of Oral and Gut Microbiota» by I.R.C.C.S.
