Designing a framework for climate-resilient, regenerative, self-sustaining villages and cities.

Info

Masterminding Eden is holding a transformative event in April 2025 in Switzerland, aimed at designing a resilient, regenerative, and self-sustaining city of the future. This month-long mastermind will bring together leading experts from various fields to develop advanced ecological frameworks for future communities. Why is it Important? We are facing a meta-crisis that threatens the very survival of humanity within the next few decades. Climate disruption, technological upheaval, health crises, and social tensions are converging to create unprecedented global risks. Incremental changes are no longer sufficient; we need a fundamental redesign of our societal paradigms to ensure the well-being of all life on Earth. What are we going to do? We will convene the world's best engineers, scientists, governance experts, and visionaries to collaboratively build a model for a sustainable, disaster-resilient city. Through innovative collaboration and the integration of cutting-edge technologies, we aim to create a blueprint that inspires and empowers other communities worldwide to adopt self-sufficient and regenerative practices.

  • The ancient wisdom of using wind towers and water channels for nature based air cooling is still relevant.

700 years ago, humans cooled entire buildings by 12°C—in the middle of the desert—without electricity. And it still works today. Long before air conditioners, the ancient city of Yazd in Iran mastered one of the most brilliant Nature Based Cooling Systems ever invented. They didn’t rely on machines. They relied on nature—using Wind Towers (Badgir in Farsi) and underground water channels (Qanats) to create a Nature Based air-conditioning system in the middle of the desert. Here’s the mind-blowing part: ◾ They captured the wind, funneled it underground, and cooled it by up to 12°C. ◾ All without energy consumption, using only the intelligence of nature. ◾ They even used this system to make ice ❄️ in the desert. For the past 15 years, at BIOTONOMY we have implemented this 700-year-old technology in our projects—and the results leave us speechless every single time. The question isn’t whether ancient wisdom is still relevant - it’s how we can integrate it into our modern cities. Like this post? • AMOC collapse is a serious threat. It’s scary how most of the climate models don’t factor in the acceleration of melting ice sheets and the increase in high latitude precipitation. It could be that we have already passed the tipping point. We just don’t know it yet.

The risk of an #AMOC shutdown - explained in 15 minutes at the Arctic Circle in Reykjavik on Saturday. I had the honor of presenting a letter by 44 experts warning of that underestimated risk to many countries. Watch the video: https://lnkd.in/e6ue-cbq

  • An AMOC collapse wouldn't just make winters colder in UK; it would wreak havoc on global food systems.

the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) is a massive ocean current that brings warm water from the tropics to the North Atlantic, moderating the UK's climate. But as climate change accelerates, the AMOC is at risk of collapsing. If the AMOC shuts down, it won't happen overnight, but the consequences will unfold over decades, radically altering our climate. Britain could see temperatures plummet by up to 5°C within a century. Arctic sea ice could reach as far south as Scotland. An AMOC collapse wouldn't just make winters colder in UK; it would wreak havoc on global food systems. According to the OECD - OCDE, suitable land for growing key crops like wheat and maize could halve worldwide. The ripple effects on food prices and availability would be catastrophic. Despite these alarming possibilities, are we understanding the worst-case scenarios and plan accordingly? #Climatechange isn't just about warming; it's about destabilization. Ignoring it won't make it go away. https://lnkd.in/eWXAzKub

  • Innovation alert: Industrial carbon capture company LanzaTech can now produce protein powder with all 20 essential amino acids.

LanzaTech's biorefining platform capabilities now include the primary production of LanzaTech Nutritional Protein (LNP), directly from CO₂, unlocking access to the $1T alt protein market. Producing LNP as a primary product is a natural extension of our commercial platform and builds upon years of experience we have (since 2018) with partners selling certified protein for animal feed. High-quality protein has long been a co-product of our ethanol-producing facilities, and we've leveraged our core capabilities to develop new standalone facilities that produce LNP as a primary product. With same bioreactor and feedstocks as our ethanol-producing operations but with a new microbe, we can mass produce a protein so nutrient-dense that ~1 metric ton can provide the typical complete daily intake of protein for approximately 18,000 people. Suited for human nutrition, animal feed, and pet food, LNP highlights include: - High Protein & Complete Amino Acid Profile: Contains all 20 essential amino acids - Non-Allergenic: Is a safe option for broad consumption - Odorless, Neutral Colored Powder: Is ideal for a wide array of food products - Resource-Efficient: With significantly lower GHG emissions; LNP requires a fraction of the land and water used by conventional protein sources - Resilient, Adaptable Production: LNP can be produced anywhere in the world and mass produced independent of weather extremes, supporting a stable food supply chain around the world Beyond addressing nutrition in the face of a global food crisis and a vulnerable food supply chain, LNP production significantly reduces GHG emissions and minimizing the strain on natural resources compared to traditional protein sources. We’ve been scaling up for over 10 years, and our pilot facility has provided protein product for testing and prototyping across all key application areas. We’ve successfully completed salmon and shrimp feed testing with the The Center for Aquaculture Technologies (CAT), and poultry, pig feed, and pet food testing is underway. Mattson: Innovation for the Food & Beverage Industry has characterized LNP’s nutritional profile and formulatability and prototyped baked goods, dairy alternatives, and protein bars, among other food products. We've also teamed up with the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) to explore LNP production at sea, utilizing CO2 extracted from seawater as part of NRL’s Seawater Carbon Capture Process. Next we're progressing to engineering design for a facility with production capacity of 0.5-1.5 metric TPD, which we expect to be operational in 2026. We're also developing the roadmap for a commercial-scale plant capable of producing 80+ metric tons per day, with a projected in service date during 2028. We remain committed to transforming above-ground carbon into valuable, everyday resources—now including protein. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gHp8sHvQ

  • Multifunctional concrete is going to be a game changer. Imagine energy storage in roads, sidewalks, foundations - a supercapacitor not a battery. Keeping more lithium, cobalt and nickel unmined in the ground. Yes there are also environmental issues with concrete. But those could potentially be lessened with the use of bio-cement processes.

Severe Flooding Strikes Poland, Causing Widespread Devastation 🌊🚨 Devastating floods have swept through Kłodzko, Lower Silesia, after torrential rains from Storm Boris. The overflowing rivers have caused record-high water levels, with streets like Grottgera Street completely submerged. One person has tragically drowned, and over 1,600 residents have been evacuated from the worst-affected areas. Bridges have collapsed, cutting off towns such as Stronie Śląskie and Głuchołazy, while thousands remain without power. The storm is part of a larger weather event affecting Central Europe, with continued rainfall forecasted. Authorities are working around the clock to mitigate further destruction. • “The meridional overturning circulation collapsed, the Hadley cell contracted, and El Niños intensified. The resultant deforestation, reef demise, and plankton crisis marked the start of a cascading environmental disaster. Reduced carbon sequestration initiated positive feedback, producing a warmer hothouse and, consequently, stronger El Niños. The compounding effects of elevated climate variability and mean state warming led to catastrophic but diachronous terrestrial and marine losses.”
