Advanced Prostate Cancer Consensus Conference (APCCC) 2025 will start tomorrow. The diagnostic abilities for assessing prostate cancer patients have significantly evolved in the last years. Ranging from advanced imaging modalities for detection, new innovative liquid and tissue-based biomarkers, and the recent introduction of PSMA PET imaging have significantly advanced the field, challenging some of the old grounds of truth. The introduction of the Advanced Prostate Cancer Consensus Conference (APCCC) in 2015 represents a milestone in establishing clinical consensus in the care of advanced #prostatecancer patients. While the diagnostic part was always an essential part of the APCCC series, its growing importance for earlier stages and detection cannot be adequately addressed in such a format. Accordingly, APCCC's initiators and leading diagnostic experts have agreed to spin out a conference series dedicated to prostate cancer diagnostics: #APCCC diagnostics. The history of esophageal cancer dates back to 3000 BC, as recorded in written forms discovered by American Egyptologist Edwin Smith in 1862. This disease was also documented in the works of Chinese and Arab-Islamic physicians. For centuries, oesophageal cancer was considered untreatable. A major breakthrough came in 1868 when Adolf Kussmaul introduced the esophagoscope, enabling direct observation of the esophagus. Surgical advancements followed: 🔹 1877 – Vincenz Czerny performed the first successful resection of the cervical esophagus due to carcinoma. 🔹 1913 – Franz Torek completed the first successful subtotal thoracic esophagectomy. 🔹 1913 – Tohru Ohsawa introduced the first esophagectomy with an intrathoracic esophagogastric anastomosis. Over the last century, significant progress has been made in diagnosing and treating esophageal cancer. Encouraging proactive health choices, regular screenings, and lifestyle adjustments can play a vital role in reducing the risk of oesophageal cancer and improving overall well-being. #EsophagealCancerAwarenessMonth #Oncology #OncologyCompass

On World Cancer Day, we highlight the importance of early detection and prevention in the fight against cancer. It is a battle shared by many, yet deeply personal for each individual. No one should face it alone. This year’s theme, United by Unique, underscores the power of personalised care—placing people at the centre of cancer treatment and their stories at the heart of the conversation. Timely screenings, awareness, and lifestyle changes can save lives by identifying cancer in its earliest stages when treatment is most effective. Raise awareness. Take action. Global efforts today lead to a healthier tomorrow. 💜 #WorldCancerDay #OncologyCompass #Capptoo #CancerAwareness #PatientCare

This week, we showcase the OlympiA Phase III trial, which reveals that adjuvant olaparib significantly boosts overall survival in patients with germline BRCA1/2 mutations and high-risk, HER2-negative early breast cancer, compared to placebo. This improvement comes without new safety concerns, affirming olaparib's role in enhancing survival and disease-free outcomes for this patient group. The study was selected by Prof. Dr. Jens Huober, one of the Oncology Compass Scientific Leaders, and can be found here: https://lnkd.in/ddyufFkK
