Thanks to Christian Walter for raising awareness about the important issue of PFAS - "forever chemicals." These substances pose a significant challenge to human health and the environment. At PAL System, we're working to provide solutions for PFAS analysis. Learn more about our resources including videos and webinars around that topic and how to equip your lab for PFAS analysis! ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eCQeEWxS #PFAS #ForeverChemicals #LabScience #PALsystem

How can we solve the "Forever Chemicals" challenge? Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), so called forever chemicals, are substances widely used in consumer goods and industry. They have made it to the limelight in recent years as they never decompose under natural conditions and hence gradually accumulate in nature.  There is an increasingly apparent suspected link to fertility issues, thyroid problems, liver damage and cancer. PFAS can be found in saucepans, outdoor clothing, weatherproofing sprays, pesticides, tubings, refrigeration liquids, gaskets and many other applications. For the Lab science industry PFAS both pose challenges and opportunities: Challenges, because EU legislation wants to ban them and they need to be replaced in scientific instruments and particularly consumables within the next few years. The exact date is yet unclear. For Lab Science instruments (liquid handling equipment, recirculating chillers, cooled centrifuges, hydrogen proof reactors) this may require substantial development efforts. An opportunity, because PFAS control and elimination requires much testing. This is done by solid phase extraction (SPE) and Liquid Chromatography coupled to Mass Spectrometry. Of course, instrumentation used has to be completely PFAS free as the maximal permissible PFAS level is in the ug per liter range. As scientists, we cannot ignore the potential threat PFAS pose to human health and the environment and must develop alternative solutions. As business people, we can exploit the opportunity and at the same time do our bit to make the world a better place. Professor of Applied Analytics - Challenge us with your project!

Lab automation in action. By combining a series of cutting-edge technologies, Jeremy achieved the goal of automated MALDI sample preparation. These advanced technologies ranged from our 3D printer lab to the CTC PAL (vital for pipetting ultra-small volumes with extremely high precision), to the UR3e, and onto the MALD-TOF/TOF platform. This stage was followed by automated querying using the Marbitec database, the world's largest spectra library for MALDI-TOF bacterial identification. Well done Jeremy for joining the dots and creating a fully integrated workflow!   We designed the Laboratory Automation and Digitization module of our BSc degree course at the Hochschule für Life Sciences FHNW to prepare our students for exactly this kind of task. Automation engineers with a solid life science background taking applications to the next level! #LabAutomation #LifeSciences #HLS #MicroLab #CTC #Marbitec #DigitalTransformation

#WorldDiabetesDay The ancient Greeks were keen observers, diagnosing diabetes by the sweet smell of a patient's breath – a result of ketones produced when the body breaks down fat instead of glucose due to insufficient insulin. It was the Cappadocian physician Aretaeus who coined the term diabetes, meaning "siphon" or "to pass through," highlighting the excessive urination seen in diabetics. Even earlier, ancient Indian physicians called it madhumeha ("honey urine") because it attracted ants. Today, on World Diabetes Day, we celebrate how far we have come. Breath analysis is now a cutting-edge field, offering non-invasive ways to monitor health. From handheld devices that can be used at the bedside of a patient to automated workflows using a robotic system such as the PAL System in an analytical lab. Breath analysis offers several advantages in healthcare: 👍 Non-invasive: No needles or blood draws are needed, making it more comfortable for patients.   👍 Real-time Monitoring: Breath tests can provide immediate feedback on metabolic processes, enabling timely interventions.   👍 Early Detection: VOCs in breath may reveal subtle changes that could signal the onset of complications or diseases like diabetes. Our Prep and Load System automates complex analytical chemistry, like the kind used to study the VOCs in your breath. This automation is key for precise, efficient, and standardized breath measurements - essential for future diabetic diagnostics and personalized care. ➡️ Learn more about the history of Diabetes https://lnkd.in/eHTf8izY and the World Diabetes Day: https://lnkd.in/dcJMsBe ➡️ Read an interesting proof-of-concept study around breath analysis and diabetic ketoacidosis: https://lnkd.in/e6-UDWcZ ➡️ Discover how VOCs workflows can be streamlined using our platform: https://lnkd.in/eY5qjXgE https://lnkd.in/eviRRxcp or visit our OEM and VAR Partners for more information on Breath Analysis! https://lnkd.in/e2pAPMGR #DiabetesAwareness #BreathAnalysis #HealthTech #Innovation #AnalyticalChemistry #PALSystem ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ♻ Help us spread the word by sharing the post! ➕ Follow us for more content and to stay up to date with automation! 📚 For more online resources and automation visit our content hub: https://lnkd.in/ebtPTbda
