Imagine a sample that moves itself — from storage, to prep, to analysis — without human intervention. 🤔 Today, we explored this vision with JAG Robotics! We investigated how their mobile & manipulator robot could seamlessly transport samples to and from our PAL System, automating the entire analytical workflow. Thanks to all the collaborators who contributed to this work. Special thanks to Hagen M. G. and PAL System for the release of the application note, which will shed light on the impact of sample preparation automation in life sciences, specifically in GC metabolomics for metabolites profiling in DBS and human blood samples. I am looking forward to more exciting work ahead, focusing on method robustness and streamlining the automation of sample preparation—the bottleneck in analytical strategies.

Phthalates are chemicals found in many everyday products, from plastics to personal care items, that can leach into our bodies and disrupt hormones. This new study shows a link between exposure to phthalates (measured in urine) and oxidative stress, a harmful process that can damage cells. Here, they also automated the extraction to streamline sample preparation for high-throughput analysis, allowing to efficiently process and analyze a large number of samples. Big news in clinical proteomics! 🥼🏥 A new study investigated how well we can analyze proteins in blood (plasma and serum) using mass spectrometry (MS). They found that results were really consistent across different labs and time points! 71 proteins were always found, including 22 that are already used in medicine.
