If you want to change the world, start today.
We all know about the damage caused by the fossil fuel industry, right? But here’s something I didn't know and learned from the video below : during offshore drilling, explosive blasts occur every 8-10 seconds, continuously, disrupting marine life. These blasts, combined with pollution from oil rigs, are killing biodiversity. Large sections of the ocean are now considered dead zones, and ecosystems near drilling platforms are collapsing. Ocean biodiversity is declining at an alarming rate. We need to stop fossil fuel extraction, transition to renewables, and protect marine ecosystems through stricter regulations and larger marine protected areas. Ocean and marine science, along with protection efforts, may feel distant to me since I didn’t grow up near the sea. However, they are deeply connected to planetary boundaries, playing a crucial role in regulating Earth’s climate, maintaining biodiversity, and supporting life. These systems are essential levers for safeguarding our planet’s health and future. For more on this topic, check out this video narrated by Benedict Cumberbatch
