On #InternationalEducationDay, SAM Organization highlights the tragic reality of Yemen’s education sector, which is facing complete collapse due to over a decade of ongoing conflict. While the world celebrates technological advancements in education, Yemen’s schools face unprecedented challenges, from the ban on social media in schools to severe violations against teachers and students by the #Houthi group. Education in #Yemen is severely impacted by a lack of teachers, as many have been deprived of their salaries. Thousands of children have been recruited into the armed conflict, and education has been used as a tool to spread political and sectarian ideologies. In addition, over 3,000 schools have been bombed or destroyed, making education in Yemen hostage to the ongoing conflict. SAM calls on the international community to take urgent action to protect education in Yemen and ensure that children have access to safe and sustainable education. #RightToEducation https://lnkd.in/gqVcMZzw

Human Rights Violations in Aden: A Bleak Reality for Activists and Journalists 📍 A recent journalistic report by #Justice4Yemen Pact Coalition, published by Daraj media, reveals grave human rights violations in Aden, #Yemen. Under the de facto authority of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), activists, journalists, and civil society organizations face arbitrary detentions, torture, and severe restrictions on freedom of expression and association. Journalists and human rights defenders endure harassment, fabricated charges, and threats, while organizations face bureaucratic hurdles and violations of privacy. The Coalition urges international intervention to establish independent monitoring mechanisms and ensure accountability for these abuses. This alarming situation calls for urgent collective efforts to restore a safer, freer civil space in Yemen. Read Full Story on the link below: https://lnkd.in/diC_B8dk

SAM Organization held a focus session on December 31 via the Zoom platform to discuss issues related to transitional justice in Yemen. The session was attended by representatives of political parties, experts, and activists concerned with transitional justice, as well as other relevant stakeholders The discussions focused on the challenges facing the achievement of transitional justice and sustainable peace in Yemen, with an emphasis on the refusal of certain parties—such as the Houthi group—to embrace peace and transitional justice. The role of political parties and tribes in supporting this process was also explored. Participants addressed a range of pressing issues, including the suffering of abductees, detainees, and forcibly disappeared individuals; the need for institutional reform; and the psychological rehabilitation of victims. The session also highlighted the importance of balancing reconciliation with accountability and the role of civil society organizations in raising public awareness and advancing transitional justice. The session concluded with several key recommendations, most notably: enhancing the role of civil society organizations in raising awareness and supporting victims; building the capacities of judges, journalists, and security agencies on the concepts of transitional justice; exerting international pressure to end the war, support the economy, and promote reconstruction; and ensuring the inclusion of marginalized groups, especially women and displaced persons, in transitional justice mechanisms. Additionally, the participants called for the adoption of a reconciliatory discourse by political parties. These efforts aim to achieve a just and sustainable peace in Yemen, based on the principles of reconciliation and justice, ensuring an end to the suffering of victims and fostering stability in the country. #Justice4Yemen #HumanRights https://lnkd.in/gNFtdsva

🚨 Exploitation of Yemeni Youth in the Russian-Ukrainian War A new report by the SAM Organization for Rights and Liberties, titled "Trade of Death: How Yemenis Were Exploited to Fight in Ukraine," reveals the alarming exploitation of Yemeni youth in the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian conflict. The report sheds light on a complex web of coercive recruitment networks, taking advantage of Yemen's dire humanitarian crisis and economic instability to recruit vulnerable youth under false promises of high-paying jobs (up to $10,000). Once in Russia, these recruits face harsh conditions: forced into military training camps, deprived of food and medical care, and exposed to indiscriminate shelling on the frontlines. Many face injury or death, with little to no support upon their return. This tragic exploitation highlights how global conflicts intersect with local vulnerabilities, turning young people into pawns in a much larger geopolitical game. #HumanRights #Yemen #UkraineWar #YouthRights https://lnkd.in/gARPAfs9
