Through its Charter on Environmentally Sustainable Self-Care and Blisters TF, the consumer healthcare sector continues to advocate for better policies prioritising both consumer and planetary health. Today at a workshop organised by the Inter-Organization Programme for the Sound Management of Chemicals to Implement the Global Framework on Chemicals, GSCF participated in a panel discussion alongside World Health Organization and other stakeholders to talk about transition to sustainable plastics packaging and how it is critical that future policies should support coherent regulations, innovations, circular principles, stakeholder alignment and consumer awareness. Non-prescription antimicrobials (#NPAs) play an important role in combating antimicrobial resistance (#AMR) by enabling early treatment of minor infections, reducing unnecessary antibiotic use, and slowing resistance. A new paper from GSCF underscores their importance and was released at the recent #WiltonPark AMR dialogue. The event provided an opportunity to explore the broader role of #selfcare in global health strategies to combat AMR including better hygiene and sanitation, greater public awareness, and preventions. At the close of the 156th #WHOEB meeting this week it is clear that : • #Selfcare is being explicitly recognized by countries and non-state actors as complementing Universal Health Coverage, managing sexual and reproductive health and preventing #NCDS like Type 2 Diabetes, oral disease and mental health. • The upcoming World Health Assembly and UN High-Level Meeting on NCDs are critical opportunities to reinforce the importance of how self-care complements action around UHC and NCDs. During the EB the GSCF was proud to contribute to joint constituency statements on Health Emergencies as well as Climate Change and Health. GSCF also put forward individual statements on UHC and a Draft Global Traditional Medicine Strategy. Read them here: https://lnkd.in/e75gtpNM Moving forward together with stakeholders and Member States we will continue striving for #betterhealthcare for all.

This week, the WHO Executive Board has convened in Geneva to set priorities for the 78th World Health Assembly. Universal Health Coverage #UHC and #SelfCare are among the topics being discussed and were central to our own dialogues in a roundtable event where we were honoured to have been joined by Mekdes Daba Feyssa, MD, MPH, Dr Khalef Attalah, Lebogang (Lebo) LEBESE, Dr Ismail H. Rumatila, Amelle Liaz and Jack Fisher. This is the year for advancing sustainable, people-centered healthcare and the #UHCAgenda. We look forward to engaging with global health leaders as we underscore the critical role self-care can play in fortifying heath systems and enhancing the accessibility of care. Together we can advance policies that empower individuals and communities worldwide! #SelfCareForAll #WHOEB
