#TBREACH Wave 9 funded innovative approaches to address drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB). REACH and Innovators In Health India implemented interventions to improve linkage to DR-TB care and reduce pre-treatment loss to follow-up. https://lnkd.in/ef-9At6q REACH India’s approach stands out for its emphasis on empowering TB Champions—individuals who themselves have triumphed over TB. These champions were instrumental in supporting nearly 3,000 individuals with DR-TB for pre-treatment evaluation and ensuring successful treatment initiation for over 90% of them. They also identified 933 migrants with TB and linked them to care. IIH's transformative efforts have led to a 38% increase in DR-TB notifications and successful treatment initiation for over 90% of diagnosed patients (diagnosing more than 1,500 persons with DR-TB). They also provided livelihood support to more than 100 individuals with DR-TB. Their innovations such as introducing the GeneXpert 10 colored device, real-time data updates, and targeted counseling, have significantly reduced treatment delays. People affected by #TB often develop impairments & disabilities associated with the disease or its treatment. This is further aggravated by the stigma and discrimination associated with a diagnosis of TB, and the barriers that people affected by TB frequently face. On International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we recognize that #disability remains a significant barrier to effective TB care and treatment. Addressing these challenges is essential to achieving equitable #TBtreatment outcomes for people affected with TB. The annual report of the Association of Persons with Disabilities living with HIV/AIDS (ADPHA), a #StopTB Partnership grantee, highlights the work that we are supporting to reduce barriers, stigma, and challenges faced by Persons with Disabilities and living with TB. https://lnkd.in/epaYNiyq REACH, a #StopTB grantee, with support from USAID launched a Rapid Assessment Report highlighting the link between TB & Disability. The findings list recommendations that fill a critical knowledge gap toward addressing physical, economic & psychosocial needs. #IDPD2024 #EndStigma #EndTB

Azerbaijan advances TB care with first time use of innovative devices for ultra-portable x-ray screening and rapid molecular testing On 19-20 November 2024, the Pulmonary Institute Laboratory of Azerbaijan hosted a training session organized by the Ministry of Health of Azerbaijan (Səhiyyə Nazirliyi) and the Stop TB Partnership on use of the ultra-portable ProRad X-ray device and the Truenat PCR testing system for the screening and diagnosis of TB for the first time. The session introduced healthcare professionals to the ProRad and Truenat devices, which have been donated by the manufacturer Molbio Diagnostics to enhance the country's capacity to find TB early and at lower levels of the healthcare system including in remote and underserved areas. In addition to the training, the Stop TB Partnership facilitated a collaboration and representation functions with official representative of Molbio Diagnostics in Azerbaijan. This ensures the comprehensive service and maintenance of TB diagnostic devices, enabling their optimal utilization in the long term. This initiative aligns with global efforts to modernize TB diagnosis with innovative and climate-resilient tools, which are essential in achieving the targets set for ending TB by 2030. #EndTB #Tuberculosis #TBInnovation Suvanand Sahu
