Friday night’s Tyson-Paul boxing match on Netflix suffered from severe buffering issues, leaving countless subscribers frustrated, sparking subscription cancellations and brand reputation damage. At first glance it seems incredible that in 2024, the world’s best-resourced streaming platform can’t live stream their showcase event. However, this is no mean feat. I've seen estimates of 1M+ Gbps were streamed - that's massive, very hard to build for, and almost impossible to test in advance. I’m also reading the issue stemmed mostly on Smart TV applications. 🇪🇺 The EU #DataAct is on its way, joining GDPR, the #AIAct, and others aiming to create a more consumer-friendly internet in the EU. What are the implications for crypto, #DePIN, & beyond? Data is obviously valuable, but its potential is locked in corporate silos. The Data Act aims to break these silos by enforcing fair access rules across the EU. Covering all connected products, the Act mandates that even non-EU companies meet new data accessibility standards. By 2025, many OEMs will need to provide users access to their device data, with penalties for non-compliance—much like GDPR. https://lnkd.in/e_Fghimx 🚗 🌐 Take connected cars: by 2030, they’re expected to reach 115 million in the EU. Under the Act, car manufacturers will have to shift control of this data from themselves to the users, opening new possibilities in sectors like insurance, maintenance, and more. With tools like Data Unions and the Hub marketplace, Streamr is well placed to unlock the value in user data in this transition.
