The third edition of the All You Need to Know About Incorporation workshop brought together eager students to learn what it takes to take their projects to the next level. If you want to tackle your legal questions, join us! A big thank you to our speakers, Alice Vorburger and Vangelis Kalaitzidakis from Walder Wyss Ltd., for dedicating their time to answering our students' questions and participating in the workshop! Congratulations to the Safespace Research team for this remarkable achievement!! 🙌🏻
Proud to be a BRIDGE Fellow and to celebrate Safespace Research's first funding of CHF 130’000 🌱 I'm the first university student in my family and a Swiss immigrant. Financial insecurity is a big obstacle to entrepreneurship: six out of ten founders have at least one parent with an academic degree and many of them come from entrepreneurial families. That’s why I couldn’t be more thankful to Swiss National Science Foundation SNS and Innosuisse for their work, and for supporting my vision 🙏 Safespace is on a mission to change the way society looks at mental health. We want to improve students' connection to their peers and help them reflect on their own, with the help of AI. Human counsellors and therapists cannot be replaced, and we will support their work 🐰 A big mission needs big support. A heartfelt thank you to my PhD supervisor Elliott Ash, Geoffrey Besnier and ETH Student Project House, Andrea Lidberg and Talent Kick, Isabelle Siegrist and ETH AI Center 🧡 #firstgen #firstfunding #mentalhealthmatters #studentsmentalhealth #digitalinnovation #safespaceresearch

When school kids can learn maths whilst swiping like on TikTok. Our project Sophia Edu Labs teaches school kids math skills using gamification. They adapt the content according to the level of the student using AI. Read about their cool project by Friedrich Wicke and Gero or download the app for testing.

This Saturday, our DIY Jewelry Workshop was a hit! Our students got hands-on, crafting unique pieces using beads, laser-cut leftovers, and 3D printing scraps. They loved creating something with their own hands and left with not only their beautiful creations but also the excitement to keep making more at home. 💍🎨 Azrahan Van den Berg Serena Stefanoni

🎉 On Wednesday, we wrapped up 2024 with an unforgettable end-of-the-year community event! Students and staff gathered to celebrate with drinks, food, and plenty of creativity. Highlights included making your own chocolate bars 🍫 and crafting unique Christmas monsters 🎄👾 using spare laser-cut pieces from the Makerspace. Huge thanks to José María Macías for organizing and to everyone who made this event so fun, reflective, and full of creative spirit. Here’s to more making and celebrating in 2025! 🥂✨

Sustainability Tuesday - why tea is better than hot chocolate. Every Tuesday we will now talk about an aspect of sustainability at SPH. This can be an insight, a project or a topic we are working on. This year, Florence Gschwend and Isabella Ilchmann created our first impact report. And we realised that our coffee machine creates a lot of CO2 - 17 tonnes to be exact. This is why we now want to nudge our students to choose the more sustainable drink! Thanks Serena Stefanoni for this cool poster 😍!

“The project began with conversations with a friend in the renewable energy industry. After hearing about how microengineering can alter the surface properties of materials, he wondered if these techniques could address a challenge with electrodes. Specifically, electrodes used in green hydrogen production often face issues with their surface properties, leading to inefficiencies in the process.” - Moritz Schenker, Hydrode. Curious to explore this further, Liyang Chen and Moritz Schenker founded Hydrode in October last year and started planning their first experimental trials, building on a connection that began when Liyang and Moritz first met at Akademischer Sportverband Zürich (ASVZ) sports. The moral of the story? Talk to peers from other disciplines, stay active, and take action. 🙌 Hydrode contributes to sustainable development by enhancing the viability of green hydrogen as a power storage solution and a green alternative to fossil fuels. Their mission is to deliver micro-engineered electrodes that improve efficiency and have a lower environmental impact compared to conventional ones. 🌿 🌎 With the support of our Biolab, Liyang Chen and Moritz Schenker can now perform precise durability testing of their fabricated electrodes in a professional setting. 🥼 🧪 ‼️ Moritz and Liyang are looking for team members with electrochemistry or financial background.
