🔹 80% of Syrian refugees hope to return one day. But challenges remain. UNHCR is supporting voluntary returns, access to legal aid and services and advocating for safe reintegration inside Syria. The world must step up its support.

In Ukraine, families on the front lines are struggling without electricity, gas or water. Many also lack shelter and essential supplies. 🚛 UNHCR, alongside other UN agencies, are delivering life-saving aid in Myrnohrad and beyond, reaching those most at risk - because no one should be left to endure this alone.

Safe passage, life-saving aid—but most importantly, sustained support for those in need. In #StaffSpotlight today, Mamadou Dian Balde, UNHCR’s Regional Refugee Coordinator for the Sudan Emergency, highlights the escalating humanitarian crisis as horrific violence in Darfur, Sudan drive thousands to seek refuge in Chad. #HumanitariansAtWork
As I end my visit to #Chad, a country hosting 1,3 million refugees with the majority arriving in the last 21 months because of the #Sudan conflict, I am inspired by the #resilience of the refugees I met, the generosity of the communities welcoming them, and the government’s commitment to inclusive policies. In Eastern Chad, I spent time on the #Chad-#Sudan border, in Adre and Tine where I spoke with refugees fleeing the brutal conflict and persecution in #Darfur, who shared heartbreaking stories of losses & violence. They arrived exhausted, after long & hazardous journeys to safety, and in need of life-saving support & opportunities to restart their lives. We also witnessed UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency and partners supporting refugees and hosts, and some trucks crossing into #Darfur carrying urgent life-saving aid to help displaced families. Resources to support these vital interventions; and access and safe passage inside Sudan are as necessary as ever to ensure critical support reaches those most in need. In N’Djamena the Minister Delegate in charge of Economy, Planning and International Cooperation Ms. Fatima Haram Acyl & I discussed the impact of large arrivals & need for development support to complement life saving aid UNHCR & partners are providing. I also had rich conversations with partners and the Humanitarian Country Team. Inclusive policies and supportive resources remain critical to ensure that the hundreds of thousands of families still facing the consequences of the Sudan conflict, which shows no sign of slowing, are able to find protection in Chad, live in safety and with dignity until #peace prevails back home. After 12 years in exile, this refugee is returning home to Syria with hope. As Saddam holds his daughter Allouna at the border crossing between Jordan and Syria, he is full of future plans. “I will open an aluminium shop in my village in Busra Al-Sham and contribute to the rebuilding of my country,” he says. UNHCR is supporting voluntary returns for many more like Saddam, who feels safe to return home and start anew in Syria. We are providing returnees and others in need with basic household items, repairs to damaged homes, emergency cash assistance, support to replace lost identity documents and psychological counselling, among other services. We are working to ensure returnees can integrate in their communities and access vital services.

"I was in my 5th year of high school. I would like to go back to school if possible and complete my education." One day, Twagirayesu and his classmates heard a warning - armed groups were coming to take them from school. Fearing for his life, he fled DR Congo and found himself in Uganda with nothing. Some nights, he went to bed hungry. But through it all, he never gave up on his future. Although he fled Congo last year, his story resonates today. With the right support, refugees like Twagirayesu can restart their lives and contribute to their communities. You can help. Share. Donate. Support. 🔗 https://bit.ly/3wovKaV

Displaced twice—first by war, then by destruction. After spending 11 years as a refugee in Jordan, Nayef returned to Syria only to find his home in ruins. With no job and nowhere to turn, he faced an uncertain future. With UNHCR’s support, he now has temporary shelter, providing him with hope as he begins to rebuild his life.
