UZH Blockchain Center Weekly Paper Review! This week, we are excited to present a review conducted by Dr TaeHoon Kim, a Post-doc Researcher at our centre. The review focuses on the paper titled "OML: Open, Monetizable, and Loyal AI " by Zerui Cheng, Edoardo Contente, Ben Finch, Oleg Golev, Jonathan Hayase, Andrew Miller, Niusha Moshrefi et al., published in arXiv 2024. #OML introduces #AI-native #cryptography, a novel approach distinct from traditional cryptographic methods. Instead of using binary encryption that produces garbage outputs for unauthorized users, it implements a "next-day security" model through model fingerprinting. The system embeds unique (key, response) pairs during training and employs watcher nodes that monitor model usage by sending secret fingerprinted queries. Unauthorized usage is detected through a proof-of-usage system where violations lead to financial penalties via collateral slashing. This approach maintains model functionality while ensuring ownership verification, with fingerprints persisting even after fine-tuning. The framework represents a shift from prevention-based to detection-based security in #AI systems. Read the full paper here: https://lnkd.in/dGyxTJ-a Stay tuned for more research updates! #uzh #weeklypaper #researchreview #newresearch #blockchain #blockchainresearch #crypto #ai #uzhblockchaincenter

The UZH Blockchain Center hosted an engaging lecture by Prof. Thibault Schrepel, Associate Professor at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam), who explored the evolving dynamics between #Web3, #BigTech, and #antitrust frameworks. His insights emphasized the interdependent roles of #Web2 and #Web3, Big Tech’s market influence, and the crucial role of antitrust in preserving innovation. Key takeaways included: + Web2 needs Web3 to reestablish trust, while Web3 depends on Web2’s infrastructure to scale. Both contribute to shaping a balanced digital ecosystem. + Leading companies like Meta, Google, and Amazon wield immense power through centralized platforms, sparking antitrust concerns over data control and competition. + With a focus on user empowerment, Web3 aims to redefine the internet, challenging centralized ownership models. + Antitrust authorities guard against monopolistic practices, especially as Big Tech’s involvement with Web3 raises questions about fair competition. Prof. Schrepel underscored the dynamic interplay between Web3’s decentralization goals, Big Tech’s centralized control, and the role of antitrust in ensuring a fair, innovative digital future.
