Integrating rehabilitation within health systems as a core component of healthy aging requires more attention: At the the Fakultät für Gesundheitswissenschaften und Medizin – Universität Luzern, two assistant professorships were funded with partial support from Velux Stiftung, to establish a research agenda on #Rehabilitation and #HealthyAgeing. This initiative aims to create synergies at the intersection of diverse disciplines that focus on healthy ageing research and has made significant progress after four years. In August, Carla Sabariego has completed her tenure and became the first full professor for Rehabilitation and Healthy Ageing recognizing her broad expertise and contributions to the field. We warmly congratulate Professor Sabariego on this promotion which is an important step to sustainably anchor research on healthy ageing and rehabilitation in health systems at the University of Lucerne. Another opportunity to learn and discuss how to integrate natural daylight into our built environment. #DaylightInArchitecture Knowledge about daylight needs to be applied in architecture and associated experiences discussed and developed further. Three events with this mission will take place (in German) at the Architekturforum Zürich: 1: 12 June: Incidence of light 2: 26 June: Daylight and density 3: 20 November: Daylight and art
It is fantastic to see the DLA – Daylight Academy grow its aspirations and its reach! It has become a unique international #DaylightResearch platform where daylight experts from many different fields mingle, exchange their knowledge and experiences to co-create and initiate new interdisciplinary topics in daylight research.
The end of May saw the Daylight Academy hold its annual conference in Trondheim, Norway, where we explored how #daylight can be harnessed in the service of Sustainable Development Goals. The event included keynotes from Annemie Wyckmans, Jean-Louis Scartezzini and Håvard Kallestad. There were also no fewer than 10 interdisciplinary parallel sessions exploring topics ranging from daylight’s role in One Health to its effects in different latitudes. There was also a session dedicated to measuring the northern twilight, where many of our participants used diverse instruments to measure the sunset sky. A heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated! We are delighted to have received so many positive responses to the two-day conference. A special thanks also goes to Barbara Szybinska Matusiak and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) for co-hosting the event. A big thanks also to photographer Jana Pavlova for taking these beautiful pictures. #sunlight #DaylightResearch #interdisciplinarity

Alberto Campo Baeza is this year’s laureate of #TheDaylightAward for Daylight in Architecture. An internationally recognised and widely published Spanish architect, Alberto Campo Baeza is also a passionate teacher. Aside from holding the position of Professor at the Escuela Technica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid from 1986 to 2017, he has lectured at various universities around the world. The architectural projects of Alberto Campo Baeza are restrained and silent examples of sensuous, mental and poetic qualities in the architectural articulation of daylight. His works can be described as celebrations of the silent miracles of daylight in buildings of widely differing functions. Campo Baeza’s buildings exemplify the spiritual qualities of daylight and thus expand the understanding of the values of daylight beyond the current scope of science. While diverse in their intended purpose, his buildings all share the same intention of ennobling the architectural experience through abstraction and reduction. Watch the architect speak about his style of work and his famous designs, such as The House of the Infinite in Cádiz, here: https://lnkd.in/dcRAHqP5 You can also read more about the laureate on the website of The Daylight Award: https://lnkd.in/dUekhtSU The Daylight Award honours and supports #daylightresearch and #daylight in #architecture. It acknowledges and encourages scientific knowledge and practical application of daylight, which interlink disciplines that are usually addressed in separated, monocultural spheres, professional circles, or practices. The Daylight Award strives to raise a holistic understanding of daylight and increase its positive impact on life. The Daylight Award is established by the philanthropic foundations Villum Fonden, VELUX FONDEN, and Velux Stiftung and is conferred biennially.

Till Roenneberg is this year’s laureate of #TheDaylightAward for Daylight Research. The Emeritus Professor of Chronobiology at the Institute of Medical Psychology at the Ludwig-Maximilan University in Munich, Germany, Till Roenneberg has been a leader in his field for decades. His research has led to an improved understanding of the many-sided qualities and impacts of daylight. He has also become notably influential as the creator of the “social-jetlag” concept – the difference in sleep timing between work and free days – and demonstrated its connections with obesity, depression and substance abuse. Till Roenneberg’s fundamental research findings have been both highly cited and influential and, significantly, applied to multiple branches of society, spanning medicine, public policy and architecture. 🔗 Watch Professor Roenneberg speak about his research and learn more about human’s internal circadian clocks and what influences them: https://lnkd.in/dKRVUwsV 🔗 You can also read more about the laureate on the website of The Daylight Award: https://lnkd.in/dkW4Xn7F The Daylight Award honours and supports #daylightresearch and #daylight in #architecture.
