gender equality & democracy, establishing new norms now, because a woman's place is at the decision-making table.
Info
Women at the Table is a growing, global CSO based in Geneva – and the first organization to focus on systems change by helping feminists gain influence in sectors that have key structural impact: technology, sustainability, democracy and the economy. Based on an ambitious yet actionable 10-year plan, Women at the Table identifies leverage points in the intricate yet fundamental systems that dictate women’s day-to-day lives. We also spotlight and support women change-makers in order to share multiple, varied visions of women’s leadership and innovation. Women at the Table exposes the systematic exclusion of women in defining the rules – and pinpoints strategic changes to laws, regulations and norms to achieve gender equality and strengthen democracy. By connecting the right people, at the right place at the right time, women are influentially involved in all levels of decision-making, so change can happen now.

#OpenStudio | Can Bias in #LLMs Be Used for Good? with Francesca Lucchini ⏰ Dec 2 | 15.00 CET | Register: https://lnkd.in/dmt4xQgP It is a well-known fact that #LLMs express harmful biases in their predictions. The main source comes from the training datasets, which are too large and expensive to check thoroughly. In this open studio, Francesca Lucchini will explore how we can leverage the bias in LLMs and use them to examine massive datasets, discovering starting points for a data audit. Francesca Lucchini Wortzman is a Tech Lead at CENIA, the National Artificial Intelligence Research Center. She has a computer science and masters degree from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de #Chile, she specializes in #machinelearning applications related to urban analysis and computer vision. Francesca is passionate about gender equality and applied ethics in #AI. #DataAudit #Datasets #ResponsibleAI #InclusiveAlgorithms

Super conversation with the one and only Matthew Wilson at the @UN Library so ably moderated by Prisca Chaoui & introduced by Lidiya Grigoreva .... Thanks hosts Sigrun Habermann @Francesco Pisano ... Lovely to be back at @UN Office at Geneva where so much foundational work on the International Gender Champions was done almost 10 years ago !! Happy to be talking about these issues, mindful of how determined we have to be to push the pace of change!
I had an incredible time this morning being on a panel with two wonderful gender equality and diversity and inclusion people: Caitlin Kraft Buchman Prisca Chaoui for the United Nations Library&Archives Geneva event on “Gender Parity” Thank you Francesco Pisano, director of the UN Library Geneva, Sigrun Habermann & colleagues for the support including the Chief of Staff of UNOG Lidiya Grigoreva for her opening address on behalf of the Director General. I was happy to highlight some issues below: - state of gender equality today is discouraging but we should not be discouraged. The obstacles are systemic, cultural and increasingly they are personal. All 3 demand separate but interrelated interventions. - The UN system wide approach to gender equality was an important systemic step. The UN, like companies, and countries would not have been able to do this without top down rules and regulations and management leadership. Equality & equity do not happen automatically without intervention. We have had millions of years with certain inequities dominating and we cannot expect organizations to naturally progress to a state of equity or representation without systemic changes. - UNSWAP and the SG’s clear targets around gender equality provided a vision; a framework; metrics and indicators; a tool kit; and accountability. But a vision or policy that is improperly financed or resourced is only a wish list. If we are serious about pushing equality it needs to also be budgeted for. - The cultural obstacles are a bit more tricky. The very nature of the UN means that is it international and representative. But that also means you have to also be open for countries or groups or individuals who have different histories, and cultural norms. And unfortunately some of these histories, religions and cultural norms do not always embrace gender quality; or the rights of other vulnerable populations. What does one do in a situation such as that? - Remember the values in the UN statute and as my Prime Minister Mia Mottley said at recent UNGA and I paraphrase: “the UN Charter speaks to we the people not we some of the people”. So it you are working for the UN then clearly you have to abide by its basic tenants and one of these has to be gender equity. -There is also the individual perspective. Unfortunately the UN cannot automatically change minds. But it can help to change behavior which is the first step to changing minds. This means zero tolerance to acts of discrimination and gender inequality. This means accountability frameworks; this means empowering employees to speak out in safe spaces; this means investing in education, dialogue and honest dialogue. And also about empowering women & vulnerable groups to know that they deserve equality and protection from discrimination or intimidation. 📖 I had the honor to interview the very inspiring Caitlin Kraft Buchman on the topic of AI, gender, and algorithms. Our conversation revolved around the meaning of a feminist AI, promising solutions, and the value of community-built tools - just to name a few! 🤖 The current debate in Swizerland doesn't adequately consider the gender and discrimination dimensions yet. With this publication, I hope to have contributed to bringing a feminist and intersectionnal lens to the rising debate surrounding AI and algorithms. AI discrimination, against not only women, is a growing issue that needs our (and our leaders'!) attention. Thank you Caitlin Kraft-Buchman for your collaboration and your amazing work! 👏 Eidgenössische Kommission für Frauenfragen EKF Women At The Table A+ Alliance
📓 Eidgenössische Kommission für Frauenfragen EKF — Incredible cover, relevant reporting, and thought-provoking questions! ♀ 💭 💡 Interviewing Women At The Table's founder: "Caitlin Kraft Buchman advocates a humanistic and #feminist approach in the tech sector. For her, artificial #intelligence must be feminist and, above all, as she puts it, “pro-social”—meaning it should consider often-overlooked minorities and be designed with positive contributions to everyone's lives in mind: “This notion of inclusion and transformation implies that the communities concerned must really be at the heart of the development processes so that we create #technology that we actually need.” 🔗 Read interview in full: https://lnkd.in/d29kqavV Discover the publication: https://lnkd.in/eahFwcAh
