Although the COP29 in Baku overall did not provide the results we all hoped for, the event marked an important milestone in the climate cooperation between Denmark and Ethiopia: - Denmark and Ethiopia co-hosted a high-level side event on cutting carbon and building resilient food systems that can adapt to changing climate systems 🌾 - The Danish Prime Minister H.E. Mette Frederiksen and the President of Ethiopia H.E. Taye Atske Selassie met for a bilateral conversation on climate change🤝 - Ethiopia joined the Danish-led global alliance Group of Negative Emitters (GONE), aiming to achieve emission reductions of over 100% thereby making them net-negative 🌡️ - Denmark and Ethiopia signed an MoU to accelerate green transition, focusing on forestry, renewable energy, climate-smart agriculture and global climate policy 🌍 All this was made possible due to the hard work of Rose Marie Arvid Larsen and Natascha Skjaldgaard from the Embassy of Denmark in Addis and close counterparts from Ministry of Planning and Development Ethiopia ✊ International cooperation is essential if we are to solve the climate crisis, and Denmark and Ethiopia are leading the way.

#SMEs in low-income and frontier markets have the potential to boost #JobCreation and #EconomicGrowth but they lack access to the capital and resources they need to scale – globally the funding gap for SMEs is estimated to be over $5.7 billion. Fund managers in emerging markets play a key role in addressing this gap by bringing much-needed capital and expertise to local SMEs but they often face specific challenges in accessing resources and catalyzing investments. This week, at the 12th IFC’s SME Ventures Forum — co-hosted by IFC - International Finance Corporation and Proparco (through the FISEA initiative) — over 100 impact investors, fund managers, and executives from Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) gathered to discuss challenges and opportunities for the #PrivateEquity industry in frontier markets and what can be done to mobilize more capital. The Forum is the flagship event of #IFCSMEVentures - an IFC program launched in 2010 to invest in #PEfunds supporting SMEs in some of the world’s poorest and fragile countries.
