📣 EUROPEAN UNION (EU) FORCED LABOUR PRODUCTS BAN ENTERS INTO FORCE The EU just published on the Official Journal the Regulation prohibiting products made with forced labour on the Union market. This EU-wide Regulation applies as of the 14th of December 2027. Economic operators are prohibited from placing products (wholly or partially) made with forced labour on the EU market. The Regulation allows EU member states and the European Commission (EC) to take a risk-based approach when assessing the likelihood of products having been produced with forced labour. The EC will lead investigations in cases where forced labour is suspected to have occurred outside the EU, whereas the competent authorities of EU member states will investigate if forced labour is suspected to have occurred within the EU. The consequences for companies selling products made with forced labour are expected to be significant. A heartfelt thank you to all our participants. 🎙️ Leading voices to advance the fight against forced labour reminded us of the great work that is being done on this matter by #employers and the #privatesector in many countries. 📌 Key highlights of the meeting included:   🔹 Welcoming remarks by Tom Mackall, Chair of the GBNFL Steering Committee and representative of the United States Council for International Business (USCIB). 🔹 Updates on the ILO GBNFL from Andrea Davila (ILO). 🔹 A preview of the upcoming GBNFL–IOE #Handbook for Employers & Businesses on Combatting Forced Labour, presented by IOE Adviser Jason Pegat-Toquet. This flagship reference document is designed to equip businesses with practical, actionable tools to combat forced labour in their operations. It will serve as a key resource for employers worldwide for years to come. Future roll-out plans include tailored products specifically for employers' organisations and SMEs. 🔹 An overview of sustainable procurement at the ILO and insights on United Nations Interagency Task Force on Combating Human Trafficking & Forced Labour in Supply Chains, delivered by Julia Gin (ILO). 🔹 An insightful panel discussion on country-level actions to combat forced labour, challenges faced, and the essential role of employers' organisations in supporting SMEs in these efforts.
