Finalized and ready: The Mitigation and Adaptation Plan shaping Chile's energy future The Ministry of Energy has released the final version of its Mitigation and Adaptation Plan, solidifying Chile’s approach to tackling #climatechange and advancing towards #carbonneutrality by 2050. Key elements include practical solutions for integrating #renewableenergy and expanding #energystorage 🔋, which will enhance system flexibility and play a vital role in ensuring a reliable and resilient energy system. The plan also highlights Chile's participation in #carbonmarkets as a means to accelerate the deployment of storage solutions. Through mechanisms like #ITMOs (Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes) under the #ParisAgreement, Chile aims to mobilize resources and foster collaboration for a sustainable energy transition. We congratulate the Ministerio de Energía Chile for this important achievement and their dedication to a sustainable energy future.
¡Recuerda!

International Seminar in Renca: Chile and Japan on Carbon Neutrality Development On November 21st, 2024, the Municipality of Renca and Toyama City held the International Seminar "Towards Carbon Neutrality: Technologies and Financing Mechanisms" at La Fábrica de Renca. The seminar, part of the City-to-City Collaboration program promoted by Japan's Ministry of the Environment, focused on advancing sustainable city development and sharing experiences as an #SDGs model city. Representatives shared insights on successful Joint Crediting Mechanism (#JCM) projects in Chile and innovative environmental technologies from Toyama, highlighting the potential for expanded collaboration between both regions. Participating institutions included the Embassy of Japan in Chile, Nippon Koei, and the Municipalities of Renca and Toyama. A key component of the seminar was a discussion panel moderated by our Managing Director, Gonzalo Díaz Pearcy, featuring representatives from Tehmco S.A., Municipalidad de Renca, AgenciaSE, and Toyama City. The panel explored practical approaches to achieving net-zero goals through technology implementation and financial mechanisms. Additionally, during the week’s stay of the delegation, they met with local organizations to explore collaborations in renewable energy projects and electromobility initiatives, reinforcing both cities' commitment to sustainable development. #InternationalCooperation #ClimateAction #SustainableDevelopment #RencaToyama For more about International Collaboration under #Article6, please visit: https://bit.ly/3BsjAk9

Building bonds over cazuela: The latest collaboration between Renca and Toyama City 🍲 In the context of the City-to-City Collaboration between Renca and Toyama, we want to extend a big thanks to the Toyama delegation, Nippon Koei and our hosts La Fábrica de Renca for spending another week with us in Renca! Beyond the productive meetings and site visits, we had a chance to share some Chilean hospitality - including some "cazuelas", which definitely beat the usual meeting room cookies. While our sustainability projects and #JCM initiatives are moving forward, it is the casual conversations and shared meals that really closes the bonds between cultures. Tackling climate action with partners who are also open to experiencing local culture is key for understanding each specific context and make progress together. Stay tuned for our upcoming post where we'll share more details about the cooperation initiatives between both municipalities during this visit! COP29: Will LATAM Successfully Navigate Article 6.2 Implementation? As COP29 begins in Baku, Latin American countries face important decisions about their participation in international cooperation under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement as key ITMO suppliers. While several countries have already bilateral agreements that enable Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes (ITMOs), challenges could impact their ability to effectively implement these agreements while meeting their NDC targets. LATAM's engagement with Article 6.2 is currently being shaped by two major cooperation frameworks. The Japanese Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM), focuses on long-term ITMO exchange through technological transfer and renewable energy projects, including biomass and energy storage installations. Switzerland's bilateral cooperation program takes a different approach focusing on short-term ITMO exchange through large-scale mitigation activities, particularly in industrial energy efficiency, and standalone storage projects. Despite these frameworks providing initial pathways for ITMO transfers, broader Article 6.2 implementation in LATAM remains in early stages such as 5 countries from the region having already signed an MOU with Singapur. Key Challenges include: - Risk of compromising NDC achievement through ITMO transfers - Infrastructure gaps in registries and MRV capabilities - Insufficient data for accurate accounting - Challenges in meeting corresponding adjustment requirements The region faces a development leapfrog opportunity through: - Benefits from international cooperation and technology transfer - Different cooperative approaches from potential partner countries - Long-term implications of early ITMO transfers The decisions made at COP29 and in the coming months will influence whether LATAM can effectively leverage Article 6.2 cooperation as a key ITMO supplier while ensuring its climate commitments are met. #COP29 #Article6 #ClimateAction #ITMOs #LATAM #ParisAgreement #ClimateChange #JCM Read the complete article here: https://bit.ly/3AFbMLF

JCM Model Project Progress: First Pingüino Program Stickers Installed We're excited to announce that this week marked a significant milestone as we completed the first sticker installation under the Pingüino program, a Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) Model Project presented in 2022. Project "Jilguero" now stands as the inaugural implementation of the program's labeling system. Alongside oEnergy, this installation transforms months of planning into tangible action, bringing renewable energy awareness and practical solutions to Chile through the JCM framework. Key highlights of this week's implementation: • First official deployment of the Pingüino program stickers • Practical demonstration of the JCM methodology in action • Template for future installations across Chile This fresh achievement demonstrates the ongoing success of Chilean and Japanese collaboration in bringing innovative solutions to life. We thank all participating stakeholders for their commitment to making this implementation possible.
