Today, on the AU Day of African Sport, let us pause and reflect on the transformative power of sport. As Dr Decius Chipande, Head (Coordinator) of the African Union Sports Council, reminds us: “Sport has the ability to empower. Sport has the ability to heal. Sport has the ability to unite us behind a common goal. Sport can help us achieve the Africa We Want.” From athletes to fans, and administrators to communities, we can all play a role in shaping the future of African sport. Whether on the field, in the stands or behind the scenes, sport is a powerful tool for fostering unity and driving the African Union’s vision of a prosperous and integrated Africa. Will you be joining the movement? #KeepMovingAfrica #DayOfAfricanSport #SportForAll Decius Hikabwa Chipande PhD African Union African Union Sports Council Region 5 (AUSC Region 5)

Sports should be fun! But how do we keep it safe for everyone? How can we safeguard children and vulnerable adults from abuse in sport? Start off by taking the following pledge: I promise to … 1️⃣ Call out bad behaviour 2️⃣ Speak out against harmful practices 3️⃣ Set an example of good conduct 4️⃣ Listen to those who’ve been harmed or bullied #KeepMovingAfrica #KeepMovingTowardsSafeSport Decius Hikabwa Chipande PhD African Union African Union Sports Council Region 5 (AUSC Region 5)

If we want to change the sporting landscape for the better, remove prejudices and encourage participation, we need to follow in the footsteps of trailblazers and others like them. Through sports development, we can build a more equitable Africa. We can contribute to the health, well-being and sense of worth of all our people. We can build a truly inclusive society, where all abilities are celebrated. So, #KeepMovingAfrica, using sport to achieve the Africa We Want. #KeepMovingTowardsInclusiveSport #InternationalDayOfPersonswithDisabilities #KeepMovingTowardsSafeSport Decius Hikabwa Chipande PhD African Union African Union Sports Council Region 5 (AUSC Region 5) Sport For Social Change Network South Africa
