Today, one in five young women aged 20-24 years were married as children.Events such as these are the primary reasons why girls’ visions are dimmed. Girls are the future leaders of tomorrow. In a world of many opportunities, many young girls have not been able to dream for the future they want.Their aspirations have been conquered by many socio- cultural norms. Commemorating this year on the theme “Girls vision for the Future” we strife to reimagine the future of young girls by encouraging young girls to see their future as bright and dare to dream big. This can be done by encouraging them to pick up fields in STEM which is a fast growing field.By involving in fields of studies such as these, young girls are sure of a secure future with many available job opportunities. Girls also dream to be the leaders of tomorrow, this can be done by actively encouraging young girls to pick up leadership roles whether it means volunteering in their communities. Little beginnings like these pave a template for a bright future as they become change makers. Every girl also dreams of equality. Equal opportunities, equal pay and equal rights. With this girls are sure of a secure, just and equitable future. The vision of girls today is that of hope, strength, and resilience. It is crucial that we stand together to ensure girls can turn their dreams into reality. Shaping and innovative and possibility filled world. At DEVIIN, we have always been advocates for girls empowerment. In 2020, DEVIIN focused on helping adolescent girls speak out so as to let them know their worth, their place in society and the importance of gaining autonomy over their lives by getting educated and acquiring skills that will empower them as women and eventually make their voices heard out loud! The world is their oyster.Together let’s empower girls to lead the way.

WHO defines health as a state of complete physical, social and mental well- being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. There's a common saying that our minds control the physical. A calm, quiet and healthy mind gives every human the ability to overcome any challenge: be it at the job site, school or even the hospital environment. Globally, an estimated 12 billion working days are lost every year to depression and anxiety, costing 1 trillion US dollars in lost productivity. Most individuals spend their time on the job. There's a tendency to become frustrated from too much workloads, stress and anxiety especially when there's a need to meet up with deadlines. The pressure mounted by bosses and the continuous desire to be perfect drastically affects people’s mental health. Commemorating this year on the theme “It is time to prioritize mental health in the workplace” serves as a wake up call for all. Many people work 9-5 jobs which means they spend ¾ of their day at their jobs. It is therefore very important that their mental state is okay. This can be ensured by; creating safe spaces at the job sites. where workers can voice out their concerns regarding the problems they encounter on a day to day because of their jobs. Also, continuous appreciation and acknowledgment of staff gives them a sense of importance and belonging. Workers should be provided opportunities to offer feedback regarding their work environment and how improvements can be made. We therefore call on everyone from employer to employees, to executive managers to unite in educating ourselves and others on the signs and triggers of poor mental health. With this we will develop better productive and fulfilled workplaces. In unity we stand to prioritize mental health in the work environment for now and the future. #Worldmentalhealthday #MentalHealthMatters #endthestigma #SafeSpace

World Cleanup Day is a global movement aimed at raising awareness and taking action against pollution. While the Arctic may seem distant from Cameroon, the impacts of marine litter, particularly in coastal cities, are interconnected. Cameroon's coastal cities, such as Douala and Kribi, are grappling with the challenges of marine litter. Plastic waste, fishing gear, and other debris are increasingly polluting the country's marine ecosystems. This pollution poses a significant threat to marine biodiversity, coastal communities, and the overall health of the oceans. While Cameroon is thousands of miles away from the Arctic, the two regions are connected through ocean currents and global climate change. Marine litter, once released into the ocean, can travel great distances, eventually reaching the Arctic. This contributes to the growing problem of microplastics and other pollutants in the Arctic marine environment. To combat the issue of marine litter in Cameroon and its global impact, several actions are necessary, which include: - Reduce plastic consumption: Promote the use of reusable bags, bottles, and other items. - Proper waste disposal: Encourage responsible waste management practices and proper disposal of waste. - Community cleanups: Organize regular beach cleanups and community initiatives to remove litter from the environment. - Education and awareness: Raise awareness about the harmful effects of marine litter and educate the public about sustainable practices. By taking these steps, Cameroon can contribute to a cleaner and healthier ocean for both its local communities and the global environment. #WorldCleanupDay #MarineLitter #OceanPollution

*World Mosquito Day 2024: Accelerating the fight against malaria for a more equitable world* August 20th marks World Mosquito Day commemorated this year under the theme; "Accelerating the fight against malaria for a more equitable world". This day is dedicated to raising awareness about the dangers posed by these tiny, but deadly insects primarily responsible for spreading malaria, a disease responsible for over 2 481 deaths in Cameroon as of 2022 (WHO) . Joining the global fight against malaria, Cameroon introduced the malaria vaccine in its routine immunization program on 22 January 2024 in the 42 districts out of 200 that are among the most at risk of malaria. This World Mosquito Day, we urge you to join the fight against malaria by following these simple steps: - Recognize the Threat: Mosquitoes are a serious health risk. They transmit diseases that affect millions globally, including malaria, dengue fever, and Zika virus. - Promote Prevention: Simple actions can make a huge difference in protecting ourselves and our communities. We can prevent malaria by; - Using mosquito nets: Sleeping under insecticide-treated nets is crucial in preventing malaria transmission. - Repellents: Apply mosquito repellents regularly. - Eliminate breeding grounds: Standing water is a breeding haven for mosquitoes. Drain ponds and waterways frequently to prevent stagnant water. - Proper waste management: Dispose of trash correctly to avoid mosquitoes breeding in garbage containers. - We applaud and encourage government efforts to support research and control efforts to minimize the spread of malaria World Mosquito Day reminds us that we all have a role in safeguarding our health and well-being. By taking action, we can minimize the threat posed by mosquitoes and create a healthier future for all Cameroonians. #WorldMosquitoDay #MosquitoAwareness #CameroonHealth #FightMosquitoes #PreventMalaria

World Humanitarian Day, celebrated annually on August 19th, is a time to recognize the crucial work of humanitarian workers in Cameroon and around the globe. These selfless individuals dedicate their lives to providing aid, relief, and support to those in need, often facing great adversity and danger. This year's theme, "ACT FOR HUMANITY," highlights the common bond that unites humanitarian workers as members of the global community. In Cameroon, these dedicated professionals work tirelessly to address pressing challenges, from the ongoing conflict in the Anglophone regions to the influx of refugees from neighboring countries. Humanitarian workers in Cameroon distribute essential supplies, provide medical care, and assist in rebuilding communities ravaged by natural disasters and violence. Their work is vital in alleviating the suffering of millions and promoting sustainable development. However, the job of a humanitarian worker is fraught with risks. In 2023, the number of aid workers killed, injured, or kidnapped while carrying out their duties increased by about 120% globally. This underscores the daily sacrifices and challenges faced by these unsung heroes. As we celebrate World Humanitarian Day, let us honor the courage, compassion, and commitment of humanitarian workers in Cameroon and beyond. Let us pledge our support to the vital work of humanitarian organizations and find ways to contribute to their efforts, whether through donations, volunteering, or advocacy. Together, we can ensure that the light of hope and humanity continues to shine, even in the darkest of times. #WorldHumanitarianDay #HeroesWithoutCapes #CompassionInAction #reliefsociety #ReachOut #Cameroon
