We are thrilled to share with you the progress of our Bakwa Health Center project. The project aims to improve access to healthcare for the rural population in Bakwa through the construction and equipping of a health center. Thanks to your generous support, we have made significant strides in bringing healthcare closer to women and children in this community. The health facility will also serve nearby communities, such as Batanga, Assaka, and Ikwebo, which also lack adequate healthcare access, significantly reducing maternal and infant mortality rates in the area. Mission: To improve the quality of life, wellbeing, and reduce poverty among underprivileged populations in Cameroon.
About us
Local Initiative for Sustainable Development (LISUDEV) is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life, promoting well-being, and reducing poverty among disadvantaged populations in Cameroon. We do this through improving access to education, healthcare, clean water and sanitation, agriculture, and women's empowerment. LISUDEV was created on 10/07/2020 and legalized on 05/07/2022 (under Cameroon law No. 90/053 of 19/12/1990: REF No. 21/E.27/ 750/SAAJP). Our initiatives work towards meeting UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6. LISUDEV was founded on the premise that it is critical to elevate poor and vulnerable people’s needs and ambitions in rural communities to take responsibility for their communities. All the organization’s works aim to build a healthy and sustainable society for all—a society where everyone has access to basic social needs irrespective of gender, religion, race, or geographical location and is empowered to live self-sufficient lives and contribute to sustainable development in their communities. Our activities include infrastructure development (construction, rehabilitation, and equipping), education and awareness raising, provision of targeted support, advocacy and capacity building, health promotion, and community development. We operate in a participatory and collaborative approach by actively involving stakeholders and beneficiaries at every stage of the project cycle. We believe in equal opportunities for all, regardless of religion, sex, ethnicity, race, or geographical location. Mission: To improve the quality of life, promote well-being, and reduce poverty among underprivileged populations and communities in Cameroon. Vision: A healthy and sustainable society for all, where everyone has access to basic social needs, equal opportunities, and is empowered to realize their full potential.

We are thrilled to announce that our program coordinator Kwah Gideon and public health officer Atoh Despaine attended a capacity-building workshop hosted by the #Ministère de la Santé Publique du Cameroun regional delegation of the Northwest. The 1-day workshop that took place at the Northwest Regional Delegation of Public Health aims to map out CSOs working to promote Public Health and Blood Transfusion activities in the region. In addition, it aimed to equip CSOs with the knowledge they need to advocate for Blood Transfusion services in the Northwest. For #LISUDEV, this workshop offers a chance to enhance our operational efficiency in promoting healthcare in the region. We’re committed to applying the insights gained from this workshop to promote health and well-being in the affected populations. #HealthcareForAll #DonateBloodSaveLife

Menstrual hygiene management is often overlooked in many parts of the world, particularly in rural areas. In Cameroon, inadequate access to menstrual health education and sanitary products creates significant barriers for menstruating students. Too often, these barriers lead to girls missing school, hindering their academic progress and limiting their opportunities for the future. With our School Menstrual Health and Environmental Hygiene Initiative, we aim to change the narrative. Our goal is to reach 10,000 students across 10 schools, providing essential menstrual health education and sanitary products, and rehabilitating school restrooms to ensure clean and accessible facilities. This initiative is about more than just hygiene; it’s about fostering an environment where all students can thrive, regardless of their circumstances. Thank you to all our supporters. You are making a difference. UNDP UNICEF Days for Girls International United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Malala Fund GlobalGiving

Bakwa Health Center: Building Hope for Women and Children. Access to healthcare is a significant challenge in the Bakwa community. Mary, a young mother in the Bakwa community, shares her harrowing experience of walking 40 kilometers while heavily pregnant to reach the nearest healthcare facility (Bassa) for ANC. Unable to make it in time, she was forced to give birth by the roadside with the help of a passerby. Her story underscores the dire need for a local health center, highlighting the dangers faced by 425 women who currently rely on unsafe herbal remedies due to lack of accessible antenatal care. Many pregnant women like Mary are faced with this challenge with some losing their lives and that of the new born. Peter, a 70-year-old resident of Bakwa, also recounts his frequent 80-kilometer treks to Njikwa District hospital to seek medical help for his chronic illness. The exhausting journey often exacerbates his condition, and sometimes he is forced to go without treatment. Peter’s story also brings attention to the plight of the elderly and children in the Bakwa community, emphasizing the urgent necessity of establishing a local health facility to provide immediate and continuous care for the 1500 vulnerable population in Bakwa and nearby communities. The project seeks to complete the construction and equipping of the uncompleted Bakwa Integrated Health Centre so that pregnant women, children, the elderly, and the entire population of Bakwa and nearby communities (Batanga, Assaka, and Ikwebo) can have access to basic healthcare. This will help increase ANC uptake, and reduce maternal and infant mortality rates. Join Us Today to Make a Difference!
