🙋♀️Hello, We are back with another form of GBV known as Femicide or Feminicide. What is Femicide? Femicide, also known as feminicide, refers to the killing of women and girls, often as a result of gender-based violence, discrimination, and inequality. Unfortunately, femicide is a significant problem worldwide, including in Cameroon. According to the World Population Review, Cameroon has a femicide rate of 2.3 per 100,000 women, based on 2020 data ¹. This rate is relatively high compared to other countries. To put this into perspective, the global average femicide rate is around 1.3 per 100,000 women. It's essential to note that femicide is often underreported, so the actual numbers might be higher. The causes of femicide in Cameroon are complex and multifaceted, involving factors such as cultural and social norms, poverty, and lack of access to education and economic opportunities. To address femicide, it's crucial to promote gender equality, challenge harmful gender stereotypes, and provide support services for survivors of gender-based violence. This includes increasing access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities for women and girls. #EndViolenceAgainstWomen #StopFeminicide #OrangeTheWorld #16DaysOfActivism #CollectiveEfforts #genderequality #UNWomen (sources : Wold Health Organization /World Po review /Wikipedia)
