Bakker Sliedrecht & FNsteel bv Project: Eindstraat 2 Drives Upgrade At the heart of FNsteel’s operations is the hot rolling mill, where massive steel blooms are heated in a gas furnace and processed through a series of mill stands to achieve the desired wire diameter. Recently, Bakker Sliedrecht completed the successful and safe modernization of the pre-finishing mill drive system within a short timeframe. The DC motors, which had been powered by mercury-vapor rectifiers since the late 1960s, have been replaced by a cutting-edge ABB ACS880 drive system. To ensure minimal production downtime, the new system was carefully pre-assembled alongside the existing installation. A brief, three-week factory shutdown during the summer allowed for a seamless and reliable transition to the upgraded drive system, which now guarantees improved efficiency and reliability in FNsteel’s operations for years to come. “Bakker Sliedrecht made the difference by ensuring a smooth and reliable execution, delivering results safely and efficiently, in an excellent cooperation with the FNsteel team”, says Matthijs van der Schoot, Managing Director of FNsteel. Here’s a look at some recent impactful projects that showcase our expertise and track record in the offshore energy sector: Common Diesel Generator (CDG) protection system: Empowering a next-generation offshore installation vessel with our advanced dual-fuel Generator Protection System. Specifically designed for dual-fuel vessels with DP2/DP3 dynamic positioning requirements, this system enhances fuel efficiency and reduces emissions by enabling safe closed-bus DP operation. Energy Storage Solutions (ESS): We equipped a heavy-duty pipelay/construction vessel and diving support vessels with our ESS system, enabling peak shaving, spinning reserve, and ramp-rate control. This has significantly reduced fuel consumption and emissions today while preparing for the use of alternative fuels in the future—a milestone in sustainable offshore construction. DC-grid: Delivered the first plug-in hybrid vessel, with a second on the way. Our DC-grid solution, combined with ESS and shore power, achieves clear savings in size and weight of the installation while significantly reducing emissions and noise. Nieuwe opdracht voor Bakker Sliedrecht bij Burgerwindpark A2 Lage Rooijen Bakker Sliedrecht is trots om aan te kondigen dat we de opdracht hebben gekregen van H4A WINDENERGIE BV voor het leveren van de 20 kV parkbekabeling en de GRID-aansluiting voor Burgerwindpark Lage Rooijen in de Betuwe! Dit windpark zal bestaan uit drie windturbines, elk met een capaciteit van 4,5 MW, waarmee we bijdragen aan de energietransitie. Voor dit project zijn wij verantwoordelijk voor de volledige elektrische infrastructuur, waaronder de bouw van een gecombineerd, betreedbaar 24 kV inkoop-klant-SCADA-station. Dit station omvat een 24 kV klantschakelinstallatie en een 50 kVA eigenbedrijfstransformator. Daarnaast leveren en leggen we in combinatie met H4A circa 4 kilometer aan 20 kV bekabeling tussen de windturbines en het inkoop-klant-SCADA-station, zorgen we voor de aansluiting en voeren we uitgebreide tests uit om de betrouwbaarheid te waarborgen. We hebben deze opdracht kunnen binnenhalen door nauwe samenwerking met H4A Windenergie BV en onze leveranciers. Samen hebben we een plan ontwikkeld om te voldoen aan de strakke levertijd tussen de Financial Close van de klant en de door Liander vereiste leverdatum voor het inkoopstation. Dankzij deze samenwerking kunnen we de uitdagingen van dit project succesvol aanpakken. Bij Bakker Sliedrecht leveren we niet alleen hoogwaardige technische oplossingen, maar bieden we ook ondersteuning gedurende de gehele levensduur van de installatie. Maximizing Asset Performance: Successful Completion of Van Oord’s Svanen Project    Bakker Sliedrecht is proud to have contributed to the successful upgrade of Van Oord's heavy lift vessel, Svanen. Van Oord's Svanen is now fully prepared to install the next generation of monopile foundations for offshore wind projects, and at Bakker Sliedrecht we are proud to be part of this great project.   Originally built for bridge construction, the Svanen has already installed over 700 monopiles and 223 transition pieces for offshore wind projects. The most significant part of this recent modification is the 25-meter extension of the portal crane, increasing its total height to an impressive 125 meters. This, along with other modifications such as enhanced hooks, now makes the Svanen one of the largest heavy-lift vessels in the world, with a lifting capacity that has increased from 2,500 to 5000 tons.    At Bakker Sliedrecht, we take pride in supporting Van Oord in maximizing the performance of the Svanen through this modification. We supported modifications and upgrades to various primary and secondary systems, such as survey, IT and fire detection. However, the most eye-catching and challenging aspect of this project was undoubtedly the preparation and execution of the cable installation, around 50 kilometers of cables, extending all the way to the top of the impressive portal crane! #Bakkersliedrecht #svanen #modification #vessel #asset #vanoord

Bakker Sliedrecht to deliver lifetime extension for frequency drives “Seaway Strashnov” Uptime and safe operations are key for our customers in the dredging and offshore business and that’s why we provide lifetime support. In this case, with a lifetime extension program for the ABB ACS 6000 medium voltage frequency drive. Bakker Sliedrecht was an early adopter for applying the ABB ACS 6000 medium voltage frequency drive on board of dredging- and offshore vessels, where high power and maximum reliability is required. Today, we apply the next generation ABB ACS 6080 in our new-build projects, but we also support our customers with a lifetime extension program for their ABB ACS 6000 drives.   The ABB ACS 6000 frequency drive has gained a solid reputation for high quality and reliability. With the first generation of this frequency drive now entering into the so called ‘limited phase’ of its lifecycle, product support, such as spare parts and service possibilites, is impacted. The solution we provide upgrades the ACS 6000 such that full product support is extended and assured for at least another decade. This lifetime extension program is developed in close cooperation with ABB and executed by our drive specialists. We already executed the first upgrades on dredging vessels and we are proud that we recently received a contract for an upgrade on board of the “Seaway Strashnov”, a state-of-the-art crane vessel from Seaway7, a company active in the offshore renewable energy market.
