As a Historically Black College, Morgan State University has long worked to improve health outcomes in neighborhoods with significant disparities. The university's new Health and Human Services Center (photos) addresses these critical healthcare needs in Baltimore while creating pathways for future Black healthcare professionals. The 208,000-sq.-ft. facility brings together the university’s health science disciplines in a space designed to support both academic excellence and community service. The building features innovative clinical spaces providing essential health services to local residents while giving students hands-on experience in realistic healthcare settings. Research entities within the building focus on reducing health disparities and improving wellness in urban communities, supporting Morgan State’s path toward R1 Research status. Targeting LEED Gold certification, the building incorporates sustainable design elements including a rooftop greenhouse where students conduct urban agriculture research and grow fresh produce for community programs. HOK provided architecture, interior design, health education planning, laboratory planning and sustainable design services in collaboration with Kathy Dixon and K DIXON ARCHITECTURE. Barton Malow served as the construction manager. Learn more about this project: https://bit.ly/4ieUMvT 📸 Brad Feinknopf

HOK Co-Ceo Eli Hoisington shares his perspective on the future of design and HOK in an interview with St. Louis Magazine. “I am most excited about what we don’t know. In a creative industry, the process of discovery is what is most fulfilling. There are so many questions to explore." "What does ‘work’ look like in 10 years? How will changing business needs, technology and mobility impact travel? As medicine becomes more personalized, will going to the doctor remain the same? Solving new challenges is what most excites me about the future of design.”

𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲—𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗮 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹. Every space has a story to tell. We recently sat down with Graphic Packaging International, LLC to discuss how its HOK-designed headquarters brings the company’s brand, culture and vision to life. The conversation revealed several tips companies can use to embed storytelling into the workplace. They include: ✅ 𝗙𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁: To work effectively, storytelling must be part of the design process from day one—not just slapped on at the end.  ✅ 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: Use design strategies such as user personas and journey mapping to create touchpoints that speak to a variety of audiences. ✅ 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲𝘀, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹: Scents, sounds and feels help make storytelling more immersive, holistic.  ✅ 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴: Use color palettes, material selection and wayfinding to subtly reinforce branding.   ✅ 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲: Allow employees and clients to be part of the storytelling through spaces that highlight work, collaboration and innovation. 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲. We’re looking back at our projects that bring people together, including the National Center for Civil and Human Rights in Atlanta. The concept of unity, evident in everything from the museum’s programming to the building’s form, inspired the design. As a physical manifestation of unity and harmony, the curved facades represent interlocking arms that cradle the building’s central core. Inside, the glass-paneled central open space recalls the public areas in cities around the world where protests for civil and human rights have taken place. As visitors move through the building, they experience interactive exhibits and immersive activities. A daylight-filled overlook at the top of the central stair serves as a spot for quiet reflection. HOK collaborated with the Freelon Group (Perkins & Will) on the design of the building, which is in the heart of downtown Atlanta, just a few blocks west of the Martin Luther King, Jr., National Historic Site. 📸 Mark Herboth

How do you design a flexible academic building that supports groundbreaking research in quantum precision measurement? HOK’s Leslie Ashor, Adaeze Cadet, and Jessica Ginther share their expertise in Tradeline, Inc. on the new Dr. Allen and Charlotte Ginsburg Center for Quantum Precision Measurement at Caltech, set to open in 2026. The cutting-edge facility will allow researchers to study quantum physics and understand complex quantum system, gravitational wave detections, the development and use of specialized lasers, and more. The 70,000-sq.-ft. building will feature specialized subterranean labs, multipurpose rooms for seminars and events, and additional spaces to foster collaboration. The project team’s unique design supports the university’s current needs and can adapt as research evolves. “It’s a sensitive balance between designing an environment that is flexible enough to support the equipment needed now and in the near future, without over-designing or over-specifying utilities,” said Ashor. We're in 𝐋 𝐎 𝐕 𝐄 with the new St. Regis Belgrade! Belgrade has always been a place where worlds collide. Located at the convergence of the Sava and Danube Rivers, it’s where East meets West and ancient history joins the contemporary age. The new hotel celebrates the rich history and culture of Serbia’s famed ‘White City’ and occupies the first nine floors of the 40-story Kula Belgrade, a signature tower within the Belgrade Waterfront development. The entry hall’s grand stair, carefully curated artwork, embossed metal finishes and elegant furniture extend a warm welcome to guests and lead them into the hotel’s public areas. Two strong focal points—a grand fireplace and sculptural service counter—define the St. Regis Bar, a beloved signature of the brand. A handcrafted, bespoke textile art piece wraps the walls, telling the story of Belgrade’s rebirth in an abstract, modern style. In addition to 119 guestrooms, the hotel includes a restaurant, bar, patisserie, fitness center, spa and meeting space. 📸 Matteo Barro, Marriott International

Originally opened in 1985 as a premier office destination, Trammell Crow Center has long been a defining feature of the Dallas skyline. Today, HOK has reimagined this landmark to be a cornerstone of the neighboring Arts District. HOK's transformative redesign enhances the tower’s connection to the evolving, pedestrian-friendly downtown. A striking new 50-by-80-foot glass and metal facade floods the lobby with natural light, while reconfigured entries and expanded ground-floor spaces offer inviting retail and dining experiences. With a refreshed plaza, dynamic energy and upgraded amenities, Trammell Crow Center is positioned as a vibrant space in the heart of the city. Photographed by Michael Robinson
