Last week I attended the Belt and Road Initiative Summit 2024 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. A huge event organized by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region 香港特別行政區政府 that lasted for two days (11 and 12 September) and that attracted people from all over the globe. I had the opportunity to discuss some of the advantages of investing in Macau, introducing some of the benefits of the region to potential investors.    It was also an excellent opportunity to meet with some of our colleagues from Hong Kong.   Looking forward to next year’s Summit!

This Monday, our Partner Daniel Silva Melo, and our Senior Associate André Sant'Ana Marques attended the 2024 Annual Conference of In-House Lawyers at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center. The event, organized by the The Law Society of Hong Kong, included a morning and afternoon session in which the strategic positioning of Hong Kong lawyers was discussed, concerning a variety of relevant topics. Overall, it was a productive experience, as usual, that provided the chance to connect with our sister SAR peers and share thoughts with familiar faces. We will be glad to attend again next year.

Last week, our senior associate Antonio Zhang 張征俊 and trainee Miguel Su attended the 4th edition of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Enterprises Legal Forum, at the Zhuhai International Convention Centre. It served as a great networking platform that helped to connect companies and people of different industries that are major actors in the GBA, both economically and socially. Overall it was a positive experience and we will definitely be involved next year.

Last week, our Senior Associate Antonio Zhang 張征俊, took part in a clarification session in Zhuhai, as part of our ongoing cooperation with Jingsh Law Firm, where he focused on the key aspects of succession law in Macau. Navigating succession matters in Macau can be daunting, especially for those unfamiliar with local intricacies. Understanding the law and the administrative procedures is essential for effectively managing inheritance matters. We thank our partner Jingsh Law Firm for providing a platform for cooperation that aims to narrow the gap between Mainland China and Macau SAR.

Last week, our firm's senior associates André Sant'Ana Marques and António Zhang attended the Mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, and Macau SAR Symposium on Intellectual Property at JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong. It was an interesting session that clarified how IP-related matters are processed in each of the jurisdictions and the expected behavior from both companies and regulators moving forward. Events such as this close the gap between Mainland China and the SARs and we will continue to support these initiatives.
