关于我们
The New Development Bank (NDB or the Bank) was established in 2015 by Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa (collectively BRICS or the BRICS countries) to mobilise resources for infrastructure and sustainable development projects in BRICS and other emerging market economies and developing countries (EMDCs). The Bank is headquartered in Shanghai and has regional offices in all five BRICS countries. EMDCs as a group host the majority of the planet’s population, with the BRICS countries alone accounting for more than 40% of the world’s population. The pace and quality of development within these countries will determine the extent to which the world is able to meet its aspirations for sustainable development. As the first MDB created and majority owned by EMDCs, NDB will continue to support their rise in the world economy and help them fulfill their commitments to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. NDB was created to be a global institution with a membership base that reflects its focus on EMDCs. To expand its reach and impact, NDB took significant strides towards membership expansion in 2021 by admitting Bangladesh, Egypt, United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Uruguay as its first new members, bringing over 280 million people who could benefit from the Bank's development solutions. NDB’s membership is open to all members of the United Nations. Continued membership expansion to promote infrastructure and sustainable development in EMDCs is a key priority for the Bank.

Imphal, the capital of India's northeastern state of Manipur, is facing rapid growth that has outpaced its sanitation infrastructure. Only 11 of the 27 municipal wards have a sewered sanitation system, forcing many households to rely on septic tanks, leading to wastewater pollution in the Imphal and Nambul rivers. In October 2023, NDB approved a sovereign loan of up to USD 115 million to address these issues. The project will enhance sanitation infrastructure by constructing 3 sewage treatment plants, 24 sewage pumping stations and a 297 km network of sewer pipelines. The 3 sewage treatment plants, with a total capacity of 41 million liters per day, will help meet the city's needs until 2039. By expanding sanitation coverage to all households, this initiative will improve health and hygiene for residents while significantly reducing pollution in local waterbodies. It supports Sustainable Development Goal 6 on Clean Water and Sanitation and contributes to SDG 3 on Good Health and Well-being. Read more: https://bit.ly/4h6flKB #EMDCs #NDBImpact #SDG6 #SDG3

NDB's new project will improve water infrastructure, boost connectivity and mitigate frequent flooding in northeast China. With a loan of RMB 1.46 billion to Liaoning province, this initiative will help old industrial cities such as Anshan and Lingyuan become sustainable urban hubs that attract talent and businesses. In Anshan, the project will focus on improving Nansha River's water quality and fixing waterlogging problems. In Lingyuan, it aims to enhance urban mobility and strengthen flood protection. By using these two pilot cities, the People's Government of Liaoning Province plans to replicate this sustainable urban transformation model in other industrial cities throughout northeast China. Luoyang is a Chinese city with a long history and rich culture. With rapid urbanisation, the city's transportation infrastructure was proving to be insufficient to the needs of a growing population. In 2018, NDB stepped in with a financing package of USD 300 million to develop the city's first metro system. Fully functional since March 2021, the Luoyang metro system has become a game-changer for the city. It has alleviated traffic congestion and enhanced the city's connectivity and urban transport capacity. Watch how this crucial transport infrastructure is improving the daily lives of residents. #NDBImpact #sustainableinfrastructure #EMDCs #SDG11
