Scania is establishing a new industrial hub in Rugao, China after having industrial hubs in Europe and Brazil for years

关于我们

Scania is a world-leading provider of transport solutions and is part of TRATON Group. Together with our partners and customers we are driving the shift towards a sustainable transport system. After having had industrial hubs in Europe and Latin America for many years, Scania decided to establish a third industrial hub in Asia. A wholly owned truck production facility in Rugao, Jiangsu province, 150 km northwest of Shanghai, China. We are investing in an industrial plant to produce trucks for markets not only in China but also in the whole of Asia. This is one of the largest investments in Scania's industrial history. By combining best practice from all parts of the organisation globally, our third industrial hub will be the benchmark from the start of production within Scania and within the Traton Group. The construction and operation of the Rugao factory will focus on enhancing customer value and sustainable development.

On August 26 to 28 we were happy to welcome Rugao Mayor, Mr. Minghao Wang and a delegation consisting of participants from Rugao Economic and Technological Development Zone, Rugao High-Tech Industrial Development Zone, Rugao Municipal Government Office and Rugao Municipal Bureau of Commerce, to Scania in Södertälje. Christian Levin, President and CEO TRATON Group and Scania Group as well as Marcus Holm, Executive Vice President and Head of Production, Procurement and Logistics, Scania Group, welcomed the delegation at Marcus Wallenberg Hall in Södertälje where also a visit to the Scania museum gave an insight in our history and heritage. To further build on our important cooperation and to create a deeper understanding of Scania, the guests experienced driving our trucks and buses at Demo Centre. “We were deeply impressed during this visit to Scania. We were really moved by Scania's business principles, such as emphasis on product quality, pursuit of continuous innovation, responsibility to all customers, and care for its employees. We firmly believe that the Rugao project will be also according Scania's business philosophy and corporate culture. It'll become a great provider of commercial transportation solutions in the Chinese market. I think the highlight thing about this visit was the alignment of Scania's business philosophy, which I repeatedly heard from Marcus several times. Scania's value is delivering lasting value for customers and stakeholders. It proves Scania's emphasis on the entire industry ecosystem. By empowering associated enterprises and customers, help everyone make progress.” comments the Mayor Mr. Wang.

I am Andrea Ding and work as Senior Packaging Engineer in Cab Logistics at Scania Production China in Rugao. Joining Scania is truly an adventure journey for me. Scania provides a platform for us to leverage our expertise in Scania's third industrial hub. It gives me a feeling that the new hub is so full of vitality and power of life. The best part of my workday is collaborating with colleagues from around the world, which inspires new ideas and thoughts for both work and life. It's fascinating to hear different perspectives from people across the globe. It makes me realize how we are alike yet so diverse. It feels wonderful to work together towards the same goal and achieve success. When I'm not working, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. Watching a movie together or walking in the park with my dog, Little Yellow, recharges my energy. The smiling face of a pet can heal the heart. On good weather days, I love being in nature and enjoying the beauty of the world. Scania Industrial Operations Asia #ScaniaAsia #goal #inspiration

The development of our products and factories are advancing with China speed, and we are also making big leaps in the development of our culture. Last week, we gathered the managers for our second Leadership Day. There are few things more energizing than hearing our Chinese colleagues explain how they reduce waste and create value-adding time by using the Scania Way. We are on the journey of our lifetime.

One of Scania's strategic targets is to be a diverse and inclusive company. Research shows that to reach such targets, men must take the lead and drive change. Scania's long-term strategy is equality and gender balance at all levels of the company, the focus is on fostering inclusive leadership. Managers within Production and Logistics in Sweden have devoted a half day to discussing and learning from each other about how we should change our behaviors and work towards a more inclusive work culture, infused with Scania team spirit and a sense of belonging. Jens, Åklinder Lagerström, Head of P&L Sweden, who has been an equality ambassador for many years, has shared his valuable insights and inspiration. He says, "I'm aware that many women and other minorities enter the workplace feeling unable to be themselves or fearing neglect, minimisation, or even harassment. This is unacceptable. We need to change! Inclusive leadership is a prerequisite for attracting and retaining a diverse workforce, fostering a better work environment for everyone and making work more enjoyable. The most effective leverage is in-person meetings to discuss behaviors and norms. We need to look in the mirror to identify the shortages and behaviors that need to change." One conclusion was how important it is to integrate inclusive leadership and dialogue into existing structures, making sure we learn and improve every day. And always remember, showing vulnerability is a strength, not a weakness! Scania Industrial Operations Asia #ScaniaAsia #equality #genderbalance #diversity #inclusion #teamspirit

Before the International Labour Day, Industrial Operations Asia had a visit from the representatives of Scania Labour Union, members of TRATON Supervisory Board and Volkswagen Group China Labour Relation. Their trip started in Beijing Volkswagen office, where they visited our Procurement team. Then, Rugao welcomed them with the site tour that covered both Construction Site 1 and Site 2, also marking them as the first visitors inside of our workshop. Michael Lyngsie, Representative blue collar union, IF Metall, at Scania and Deputy Chairman of TRATON Supervisory Board comments, “Scania has business in many different countries, and we are used to deal with differences. If we compare with the Sweden Labour Union, we are different, but we share the same core principles. We should have regular interaction to see what we can do to support each other, because there’s much information that we need in our role, and hopefully, there’s a lot we can do to support the local organisation.” Lisa Lorentzon, Chairperson University Graduates union, Akademikerföreningen, at Scania. Member of TRATON Supervisory Board says, “the most important thing is work with what you have and improve. Different things work differently in different countries, so we should work from there. You can feel it when you meet people here - the energy, the Scania team spirit from everyone, and the feeling that everyone wants to contribute and help. It feels like Scania when you come into the office and the Construction Site.” With this visit, we can go back feeling quite proud and with what we are doing here. The decisions we made are well on track and have been done in the Scania Way.  Today is a special day in which we are celebrating our effort and contribution in what we do, wishing you a Happy International Labour Day!
