As Wellington College International Shanghai celebrated its 10th anniversary, we were thrilled to welcome back Jackson Faulkner, Class of 2018, to join in the festivities. Jackson was not only a founding pupil of the school, but also returned as a special guest performer with the school orchestra. In a recent conversation, Jackson shared how his time at Wellington Shanghai pushed him to step out of his comfort zone — a pivotal moment that set him on his current path as a professional jazz trumpeter and music educator. He's now performing with jazz ensembles throughout Australia and teaching the next generation of young musicians. It was wonderful to reconnect with Jackson and hear how the skills he developed at Wellington continue to serve him well. Sir Anthony Seldon, the Founding Director of Wellington College Education, recently visited Wellington College China schools and provided his unique perspective on the dynamic collaboration between Wellington College China and Wellington College.  With Sir Anthony's distinguished career in educational leadership and commitment to internationalism, his vision for Wellington's future development underscores the importance of bridging cultural divides to prepare global leaders. As the former Headmaster of Wellington College UK, Sir Anthony was instrumental in launching the institution's international journey, including founding Wellington College China schools. Central to his philosophy is the belief that education should nurture pupils' personal and intellectual potential, equipping them with resilience and wellbeing. The 10th Vision of International Study Conference (VIS) 2024 took place in Beijing from November 22-24. Organised by NewSchool Insight, this year's conference explored the theme 'The Appearance of Ideal Education'. We were honoured to be represented by Dr Yang Yang, Master of Wellington College Tianjin, who gave an insightful talk on ensuring a 'Smooth Transition to International Schools' and Laurianne Gidrol, our Group Director of Marketing, who shared an illuminating case study on 'Marketing Strategies for Increasing Admissions'. The VIS conference provides a valuable platform for education leaders and experts to exchange insights, innovations, and best practices. We are thrilled to share that Wellington College China has won the prestigious Business Partnership Award at the British Chamber of Commerce in China (BritCham China)'s 2024 British Business Awards! This award recognises the transformative impact of our 15-year partnership with Wellington College in the UK. By merging Chinese, British and international best practices, we have created a unique, pupil-centric learning experience that celebrates local culture as it teaches global perspectives. This partnership has had powerful knock-on effects in China. The opening of Wellington College Tianjin, Wellington College International Shanghai, Hiba Academy Shanghai, Wellington College International Hangzhou, Hiba Academy Hangzhou and Hiba Academy Nantong has brought substantial investment to several cities in the country, boosting local economies and creating over 1300 employment opportunities in their respective communities. Our schools also engage in community outreach initiatives, such as need-based scholarships and partnerships with local schools, to share resources and expertise. Additionally, with campuses like Wellington College International School Bangkok, Wellington College International School Pune, and new schools forthcoming in Indonesia, South Korea and the US, the Wellington College Education network continues to produce exceptional academic results and empower pupils to excel and make a positive difference in the world.
