In celebration of the start of 2025, we partnered with our client Colliers International at their customer appreciation event in Shanghai, bringing together 200 attendees. While we carefully planned and managed every detail of this gathering, it also provided the perfect opportunity to showcase our GUDAO series.
GUDAO, meaning “ancient trails” in Chinese, brings new life to forgotten routes that once connected commerce, culture, and pilgrimage. Similar to Europe’s El Camino, GUDAO showcases the cultural and historical richness of China’s trails, blending environmental conservation, cultural preservation, and collaboration with local communities to create meaningful travel experiences. It is an ongoing project WildChina continuously work on, developing new routes.
During the event guests were introduced to three distinct trails:
• Beijing’s Jingxi Ancient Trail – A Journey Through Fragrance: Inspired by the incense routes of Jingxi, guests explored the art of incense-making, reflecting both spiritual pilgrimage and cultural craftsmanship.
• Zhejiang’s Songyang Ancient Trail – Herbal Wisdom: A local herbalist from Songyang guided attendees in blending traditional medicinal teas, a tradition rooted in the region’s mountainous communities.
• Guizhou’s Miao and Dong Trails – Living Heritage: Artisans from Guizhou’s ethnic minority groups, dressed in stunning traditional attire, shared their rich heritage through batik-making, displays of intricate clothing, and performances of the soulful Dong Grand Songs.
Members of these communities joined us at the event, offering guests an authentic, firsthand glimpse into their traditions. Their presence, combined with the immersive presentations, brought the ancient trails to life. More than just a gathering, the event symbolized our commitment to connecting people with China’s cultural heritage and inspire efforts to preserve it for the future.
