Português: Consta êle de escudo português, lembrando uma das origens da nacionalidade brasileira, encimado pela coroa mural de cinco tôrres, designativa de cidade. No interior do escudo e na parte superior, ostentam-se duas flôres de lis, simbolizando Nossa Senhora da Conceição e São José, sob cuja invocação foi dado o povoado. Dispostos logo abaixo, vêem-se os “montes claros”, lembrando a denominação da Cidade. Destacam-se duas datas, uma de cada lado do escudo: 1707, da fundação do povoado e 1857, da elevação da Vila à categoria de Cidade. Finalmente, na faixa que se representa sob o escudo, acha-se gravado o versículo do Salmo “sub umbra alarum tuarum”, que me foi sugerido como adequado ao conjunto pelo historiador dr. Augusto de Lima Júnior, considerado a ridade em heróldica.” |
