Français : Pasiphaé et le Minotaure. Médaillon d'un kylix attique à figures rouges, 340-320 av. J.-C. Provenance : Vulci. Pasiphaé, fille du Soleil, femme du roi de Crète Minos qui avait offensé Poséidon, fut prise d’une passion irrésistible pour un taureau, qu’elle assouvit grâce à une vache mécanique construite pour elle par l’ingénieux Dédale. De cette union est né le Minotaure que son père cache vite dans le labyrinthe construit par le même Dédale. Un intérêt pour l’enfance du monstre, à l’époque classique, est peut-être lié à une pièce perdue d’Euripide, Les Crétois.
L’intérieur de cette coupe offre une scène unique montrant le Minotaure enfant : il est assis sur les genoux de sa mère qui le cajole. Pasiphaé porte une couronne et des bijoux ; à ses pieds, un cygne est figuré sous une ciste ornée. Cette image d’un mythe grec a été créée à Vulci par un peintre étrusque imitant les productions attiques. |
