A new docuseries about ’80s hair metal is headed to Paramount+.
Nöthin But a Good Time: The Uncensored History of the ‘80s Hair Metal is set to premiere later this year and will be based on the similarly titled book/oral history by journalists Tom Beaujour and Richard Bienstock.
Directed by Jeff Tremaine (Jackass, The Dirt), the three-part series will dive into the hedonistic and wild world of ‘80s hard rock with interviews from Poison’s Bret Michaels, Ratt’s Stephen Pearcy, Extreme guitarist Nuno Bettencourt, Dave “Snake” Sabo of Skid Row, and MTV host Riki Rachtman, along with those who were influenced by the era such as Corey Taylor and Steve-O.
States the press release: “The series delivers a fresh and shockingly candid behind-the-scenes look at one of music’s most iconic eras. Each episode showcases the insanity and blazing ambition that has enthralled generations of music lovers and continues to influence culture to this day.”
Added Tremaine, “This docuseries is a celebration of the most outrageous decade in rock n’ roll. It’s my love letter to the ’80s.”
Nöthin But a Good Time: The Uncensored History of the ‘80s Hair Metal is executive produced by Tremaine and Shanna Newton for Gorilla Flicks; Eric Wattenberg, Scott Lonker and Will Nothacker for Wheelhouse’s Spoke Studios; Erik Olsen; and Bruce Gillmer and Michael Maniaci for MTV Entertainment Studios. The writers Bienstock and Beaujour, who penned the aforementioned book, are serving as co-executive producers.
In other news, numerous major ’80s hard rock and hair metal acts have been announced as part of the 2025 lineup for the annual Monsters of Rock Cruise. Specifically, docuseries interviewees Stephen Pearcy of Ratt and Nuno Bettencourt (with his band Extreme) are set to perform aboard the cruise fest.
