Minister Manuel Tovar met today in Brussels with his counterpart Maroš Šefčovič, Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security of the European Union. They agreed that the values that historically unite Costa Rica and the European Union will be the engine to promote greater trade and investment flows, as well as synergies in strategic issues such as 5G and WTO agenda. The European Union expressed its support to Costa Rica, as Chair of the OECD 2025 Ministerial Meeting.

Today marks the final step towards the entry into force of the Economic Partnership Agreement between Costa Rica and Emiratos Árabes Unidos. Ministers Manuel Tovar and Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, officially exchanged the instruments of ratification. This deeper and more dynamic trade relationship will begin to materialize on April 1st.

Costa Rica has been invited by the Members of the Digital Economy Partnership Agreement (DEPA) – Chile, Korea, New Zealand and Singapore – to join the Agreement, following the substantial conclusion of discussions for Costa Rica’s accession. The DEPA is a pioneering digital trade agreement that establishes rules to facilitate digital trade and fosters international collaboration in areas such as data protection, cybersecurity, paperless trading, and emerging technologies like AI and Fintech. This achievement underscores Costa Rica’s commitment to promoting innovation, open markets and digital trade. Since submitting our request in December 2022, Costa Rica worked diligently to demonstrate its compliance with DEPA’s high standards and its willingness to cooperate with Members in projects of mutual interest. https://lnkd.in/en8VKiZw
