What a rollercoaster February has been! The Middle East never stops surprising me and challenging me in the best possible ways. This month has been filled with intense operational work, but also with a lot of exciting business development opportunities. One of the highlights was being invited to the Public Investment Fund (PIF) Forum, where I had fascinating discussions about the future of construction and the road ahead. I also had the privilege of meeting some incredibly inspiring people over the course of the two days, as well as spending good quality time with my industry colleagues. This Tuesday, I had the honor of moderating a panel in Riyadh on #Sustainable #Construction Materials: The Transition to #Greener #Concrete. Despite all the events happening in Riyadh right now, the attendance was fantastic, and my fellow panelists, José Barquero, Hussam Ali, and Fahad Siddiqui, were outstanding. They expertly navigated some tough questions I put on the table. Key takeaway? The elephant in the room was addressed – the potential cost increase in concrete. While the increase may be marginal, it can be absorbed. However, the transition to sustainable construction shouldn't only be pushed by developers but should be driven by government mandates. This is crucial for achieving the goals of Saudi Vision 2030. José Barquero also shared an exciting solution – #RESIN8, a game-changing value proposition for the Kingdom. It recycles plastic waste and turns it into a lightweight aggregate to replace part of traditional aggregate used in the concrete, which enhances the performance. It's a perfect example of #circular #economy in action, turning waste from one industry into the raw materials for another, and this solution is already being successfully implemented in four countries! The more time I spend in the #UAE and #Saudi, the more I realize how rapidly our industry is evolving and how incredibly determined the people are to push for progress. #blessed to being part of this wonderful and tiring transition. Special mention to my team to make the busy months fun and "easy".
