What is it like to defend the environment and that’s the reason why your life is at risk? For Women Environmental Human Rights Defenders (WEHRDs), this is their daily reality. As COP29 continues to unfold, it is crucial to recognize the unique needs of WEHRDs and ensure that climate finance is structured to truly support them. WEHRDs need core, flexible, and long-term funding that provides for their safety, mental health, and continued advocacy. Their leadership in defending land, water, and communities from environmental harm is indispensable, yet they are often the least supported.
