CEITEC proudly joined the From the Lives of Female Scientists mini-conference organised by the Institute of Analytical Chemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences as part of the #IUPAC global Women‘s Breakfast. This was one of the many meetings held all over the world with the goal of supporting equality for women in science 🤝 After the introductory word given by the organiser, Anna Týčová, five speakers took turns and talked about their own careers as female scientists. The event brought together women representing different career stages and also different opportunities and obstacles they are facing in their respective lives 💪 CEITEC female scientists joined the panel with Veronika Pavliňáková from the Advanced Biomaterials research group at CEITEC - Central European Institute of Technology Vysoké učení technické v Brně talking about the different perspectives of theoretical and applied research and about her own research into skin transplants and membranes for the healing of infected wounds 🔍 The whole programme was concluded with Šárka Pospíšilová, the Vice-Rector for Research and Doctoral Studies at Masaryk University and the Molecular Biology Centre lead at CEITEC MUNI, among other functions, shared insights from her rich academic career, including working abroad, while raising two daughters. Celebrating Women and Girls in Science 💪 Despite the achievements of pioneers like Marie Curie, women continue to face significant underrepresentation in STEM fields. As we approach the 10th anniversary of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science on February 11, 2025, we take time to reflect on both global and local efforts to promote gender equality in science 👩🔬🌍 In the Czech Republic, women make up only 26% of life science researchers and 23% in technical sciences (2022 data) 💡 To mark this year’s celebration, we interviewed two inspiring women scientists from CEITEC - Central European Institute of Technology: Khadija HAJJI, postdoc from the ERA Chair – RNA and Immunity group at CEITEC Masaryk University and Vice-chair of Postdoc Peer Committee, and Michaela Vojníková, PhD student at CEITEC Brno University of Technology (Vysoké učení technické v Brně) and Mendelova univerzita v Brně, currently a Fulbright scholar at UC San Diego 🇺🇸 Khadija and Michaela both shared their journeys, the challenges they faced, and the milestones they achieved. Michal Urbánek’s leadership in CEITEC Nano and CzechNanoLab recognised by Brno City 🚀 The City of Brno has recognized outstanding personalities for their contributions to public life and technical progress. Among the honorees is Michal Urbánek from CEITEC - Central European Institute of Technology Brno University of Technology (Vysoké učení technické v Brně), who was awarded for his remarkable contributions to the field of technical sciences 🏆 Since 2016, Dr. Urbánek has led the CEITEC Nano Research Infrastructure and, since 2020, has coordinated CzechNanoLab –  the only facility of its kind in the Czech Republic. This unique infrastructure drives innovation across fields like nanoelectronics, neuroscience, and nanobiotechnology, while fostering collaboration between academia and industry ⚙️🔬 Under his leadership, CEITEC Nano and #CzechNanolab achieved top ratings in national and international evaluations and recently secured funding of 361 million CZK for modernization. CEITEC expats invited to Meet the Mayor of Brno City ✨ Brno is home to 400 000 people, 66 000 of which are foreigners. The city strives to provide a nurturing environment for them, especially through the Brno Expat Centre, which helps newcomers with anything from getting a visa to setting up a bank account to travel and entertainment tips 💡   CEITEC - Central European Institute of Technology is proud to employ hundreds of foreigners coming from 45+ countries.
