From locusts to the human brain: Eric Głowacki revolutionizes neural engineering 🚀 Professor Eric Głowacki is a physical chemist by training, but over the past fifteen years, his work has gradually shifted to biomedicine. He currently leads the Bioelectronic Materials and Systems research group at CEITEC - Central European Institute of Technology Brno University of technology (Vysoké učení technické v Brně), focusing on the development of biomedical devices and procedures that can wirelessly stimulate the nervous system. He is also the recipient of an ERC grant for the OPTEL-MED project (Optoelectronic Medicine – Control of Nerve Cells by Light) 🔬 “The facilities and laboratories, especially the cleanrooms at CEITEC Nano Research Infrastructure, are truly exceptional. I gradually realized that Brno offers many additional advantages. In our research at the intersection of physical and biomedical sciences, we need the collaboration of biologists, doctors, and opportunities for animal and clinical research. All of this is available here in Brno“ says Eric 🌍 Read the interview conducted with the support of inovační agentura JIC below ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/eJ_SsRBB #CEITECScience #NeuralEngineering #WirelessDevices #BrnoScience #Neurostimulation #ERC #brnoregion #CzechRepublic

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our colleague Martina Pokorná. Martina left us after a long and difficult illness. Her passing is very premature and painful for us, her colleagues at CEITEC - Central European Institute of Technology Masaryk University, where she served as Deputy Director for Administration since 2012 and then briefly as Deputy Director for Human Resources. 💬 "Anyone who has been fortunate enough to know Martina personally knows that when God dealt out humanity, He gave Martina more than anyone else. Martina created a safe environment, a family and a home for us, administration heads. She knew our stories, our partners, our children, and she never refused to help anyone. She was always there and her voice and laughter will be sorely missed. It wasn’t just a boss who left us, but a wonderful person and a dear friend," is the unanimous sentiment across the administrative team leaders. Martina Pokorná remains a role model because of her friendly nature and her unflagging interest in the development of the scientific environment. Her memories will remain a lasting part of the CEITEC MUNI story. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/d2dFAzY8

New achievements in applied science: CEITEC - Central European Institute of Technology research awarded in the category of Partnership 🏆 The Centre for Electron and Photon Optics brings together all key academic and industrial players in the Czech Republic involved in research and development in electron and photon optics. The project’s researchers include a team of scientists from CEITEC Vysoké učení technické v Brně, CEITEC Masaryk University and the Centre for Sensing, Information and Communication Systems (SIX) from Fakulta elektrotechniky a komunikačních technologií VUT v Brně, with Ústav přístrojové techniky AV ČR, v.v.i. as the main coordinator. The partners in the consortium include industrial partners like Thermo Fisher Scientific, Meopta s.r.o., CRYTUR, spol. s r.o. and others 🤝 The Centre was founded on deep collaboration between academic and industrial partners, which is often presented as difficult to implement. It was the successful interconnection and very close cooperation of the individual consortium members that led to the Centre becoming the winning project awarded the Technologická agentura České republiky Prize in the Partnership category 👏 “The individual teams often dealt with the implementation of ideas arising from the findings of basic research (e.g. observation of magnetic contrast in a scanning electron microscope or the creation of optical elements using metasurfaces),” explains Miroslav Kolíbal, the main coordinator of the project for BUT 🔬 Read more in our newly published article on the web ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/eZiWZN3Q #CEITECScience Brnoregion Microscopy #brnoregion #AppliedResearch #PhotonOptics #ElectronMicroscopy #Collaboration

Honouring the Legacy of Professor Vladimír Sklenář 🌟 Last week, we gathered for the Vladimír Sklenář Memorial Conference on NMR and Structural Biology at CEITEC - Central European Institute of Technology in cooperation with the Faculty of Science, Masaryk University. The event celebrated the extraordinary career and lasting impact of Prof. Sklenář, a pioneer in structural biology and NMR spectroscopy, who passed away this year. Over two days, colleagues and former students remembered Prof. Sklenář's profound contributions to science, such as the development of the Watergate method in NMR, and his dedication to building world-class research infrastructures in the Czech Republic 🔬 Through interesting lectures and heartfelt memories, attendees celebrated not just his scientific achievements but also the humanity and humour he brought to his work. His influence extends beyond the lab, having mentored a generation of scientists and established international collaborations that endure today. We thank everyone who participated in making this a meaningful tribute. Let us carry forward his legacy of scientific excellence and curiosity 🧪 CIISB Instruct-CZ, Instruct-ERIC #CEITECScience #StructuralBiology #NMR #LegacyOfExcellence #ncbr #brnoregion #CzechRepublic

CEITEC scientists secure prestigious EIC Pathfinder grant 🎯 The High-Performance Materials and Coatings for Industry (HPMC4I) research group at CEITEC - Central European Institute of Technology Brno University of Technology (Vysoké učení technické v Brně) has been awarded a prestigious grant under the EIC Pathfinder Open program. This European program is focused on supporting research and innovation in new technologies and approaches that can have a significant impact on the market and society. Out of 1,110 project proposals, the commission selected only 45, making the overall success rate just 4 % 🚀 Within the grant, Edgar B. Montufar will lead the ambitious international project BiCeps as the only Czech coordinator, aiming to create a new type of actuator through additive manufacturing that mimics natural muscle movement 💪⚙️ “Motors and drive systems are everywhere, as is additive manufacturing. But to use additive manufacturing to create something that isn’t a motor yet can generate movement in a different way is a unique concept,” Edgar explains 💡 Read more in our newly published article ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/eGBSzzhe #CEITECScience Ladislav Celko GlaCerHub #AdditiveManufacturing #Actuators #Engineering #EUFunding #brnoregion #CzechRpublic
