A huge thank you to Victor Blanco, researcher at IRTA and member of CONCAT Living Lab, for representing ECO READY at the Orchard Systems 2025 conference in Napier, New Zealand! His presentation, "Drought emergency plan: managing apple tree orchards during extreme droughts," provided valuable insights into how thinning and pruning strategies can help sustain tree water status, yield, and fruit quality under extreme drought conditions. These findings contribute to adaptive management practices that support long-term agricultural resilience in water-scarce regions. Eco Ready’s Danish Living Lab, LivOrganic, is exploring how organic farming can play a key role in securing the EU’s food supply in the face of climate change and biodiversity loss. 🌍 As part of the EU-funded ECO-Ready initiative, LivOrganic investigates how organic agriculture improves soil fertility, biodiversity, and water protection—and whether these benefits can help safeguard Europe’s future food system. Using precision farming, digital monitoring, and computer simulations, LivOrganic is analyzing future scenarios for organic farming over the next years. The data collected contributes to a shared European early warning system, providing guidance for farmers, policymakers, and the food industry. 📢 Are you involved in organic farming in Denmark? With a career spanning decades, Mark Lynas has made an indelible mark in environmental advocacy. He is the author of five major environmental books, including the award-winning Six Degrees—a Royal Society prize-winning book that was translated into 22 languages and adapted into a National Geographic documentary. His latest work, Our Final Warning: Six Degrees of Climate Emergency, is a sobering and urgent call for climate action. This forum will explore innovative solutions for addressing climate change, food security, and sustainability challenges—key pillars of Eco Ready's mission. This is where 'serendipity', the art and science of finding opportunities in the unexpected—shines. The Serendipity Society brings together researchers, practitioners, and curious minds who study this fascinating phenomenon across different fields and organizations. As interest grows in business, academia, and public institutions, the Society builds partnerships, encourages cross-disciplinary research, and combines practical experience with theory to establish serendipity as its own field of study.
