"Global battery development & production network of Mercedes-Benz" by Dr. Uwe Keller – Mercedes-Benz AG: Mercedes-Benz presented their advancements in battery technology, emphasizing innovative designs like silicon-dominant anodes and solid-state batteries for superior performance and sustainability. We would like to give you a brief insight into these presentations: "eFuels as a Net Zero Enabler: The Way Forward to Create a New Industry" by Dr. Lukas Mauler – Porsche Consulting GmbH: The presentation explored the potential of eFuels as a CO2-neutral alternative derived from renewable energy and direct air capture, offering a bridging solution for existing combustion engine fleets and a lightweight, cost-effective option for sectors like aviation and marine transport. Key insights highlighted the need for intelligent scaling, efficient production technologies and regulatory incentives to drive down costs and establish eFuels as a cornerstone of a Net Zero future and a foundation for a new industry. "The flexible use of lower carbon intensity fuels in non-road applications" by Paul Moore – Caterpillar Inc: Caterpillar's presentation highlighted the potential of hydrogen and other sustainable fuels for internal combustion engines, emphasizing their lifecycle CO2 reduction benefits compared to battery electric and fuel cell vehicles in on-highway and off-highway applications. The talk explored the need for a holistic legislative approach that includes renewable fuels, addressing unique challenges such as power density, robustness, and integration, while showcasing strategies for adapting existing powertrains to alternative fuels. "Enhancing Sustainability in Automotive Design: A Case Study on Reducing CO2 Emissions from BorgWarner’s eXD" by Dr. Louise Gren – BorgWarner Sweden: Dr. Gren shared her innovative approach to reducing Scope 3 emissions in her electric Cross Differential (eXD), showcasing design solutions like material substitution and lightweighting that could cut emissions by up to 35% while maintaining performance.
