𝗖𝗢𝗣𝟮𝟵 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, with the $300bn climate finance target falling far short of the amounts needed to deliver equitable action. Fossil fuel-exporting nations have hosted the last three COPs, each delivering underwhelming outcomes. Vulnerable countries have been left frustrated. 𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲, like progress on carbon markets and green initiatives in in developing countries. But much more is needed. With Brazil hosting COP30, urgent breakthroughs are needed, and there may be reason to hope that the next COP may feel more like a home game. "With no peace, there can be no climate action. With no climate action, there can be no peace. The two are absolutely connected." Janani Vivekananda, adelphi Head of Climate Diplomacy and Security https://lnkd.in/dnENf_ke
Media spotlight 🎥 Head of Programme, Janani Vivekananda on how climate action, finance and peace are interconnected during #COP29 Many of the places that climate change is happening are already affected by all sorts of social stressors, economic pressures and political pressures that can come together to form instability and conflict. When you add climate change to the existing pressures that they face, it can make the risk of conflict even greater. With no peace, there can be no climate action. And with no climate action, there can also be no peace. 📺 Watch the interview with AZTV starting at 06:23 https://lnkd.in/ggQ7DtdT

Saludos desde Santa Marta, Colombia!🇨🇴 Greetings from Santa Marta, Colombia! 🇨🇴 It’s immensely fulfilling to witness the tangible achievements of our BMUV Zukunft – Umwelt – Gesellschaft (ZUG) gGmbH and adelphi lead project, PROMAR , here in #Colombia. As part of our innovative pilots to prevent #MarineLitter in #SantaMarta, we have made remarkable progress alongside our incredible local partners, Fundación Socya . Here’s what we’ve accomplished together: 👉🏻Empowering Informal #WastePickers: We formalized the roles of 40 informal waste pickers, providing them with dignified livelihoods, improved earnings, and a healthier working environment. 👉🏻Training #Households: Over 25,000 households have been trained in #waste sorting and #WasteManagement, creating awareness and driving behavior change at the grassroots level. 👉🏻#Educating the Next Generation: Waste management systems have been integrated into schools, enabling children to learn the importance of #sustainable practices at an early age. 👉🏻River Barriers to #Prevent Marine Litter: We installed waste-blocking barriers across four rivers flowing into the sea, significantly reducing #marine litter and protecting the pristine marine #ecosystem. These efforts have not only achieved the project’s objectives but also established sustainable, replicable solutions for marine litter prevention. Santa Marta, with its breathtaking beauty, is now a shining example of how collaborative action can lead to environmental and social transformation. This success story is a testament to what can be achieved through #innovation, #partnerships, and #CommunityEngagement. Here’s to building a cleaner, healthier future for our oceans and communities! 🌊 . . Mikael P.
