Dear colleagues and friends, Tomorrow and Friday, the T.M.C. Asser Instituut will be hosting the seventh edition of the International Sports Law Journal annual conference (#ISLJConf24) launched under the editorship of Johan Lindholm in 2017 and continued by our current editor-in-chief Mark James. It is always a pleasure for me to welcome at the Institute a new cohort of up-and-coming and established #sportslaw scholars from all around the world for two days of fascinating (sometimes heated) discussions on various questions at the heart of transnational sports law and governance. I believe we have opened up an intellectual space where critical thinking about the field can crystallize (and be tested) before being shared more widely in the ISLJ. Thank you to our two keynote speakers Khalida Popal and Jules Boykoff for taking the time to join the conference and share their stories and work with us. I’m also very much looking forward to engaging with the papers presented by Ariel Dulitzky, H. Two of our researchers, Dr. Cathérine Van de Graaf and Reza Khabook, contributed as lecturers during the Autumn School of the DAAD Taz'iz LegalLead project, which took place from September 30 to October 5, 2024, at the Faculty of Juridical, Political, and Social Science at the University of Carthage, Tunisia. Dr. Van de Graaf delivered a lecture on “Mobilising the gender discrimination argument in third-party interventions before the European Court of Human Rights,” while Reza Khabook presented on “Constitutional law in Islamic countries from a comparative perspective.” Their participation contributed to a dynamic exchange with law students from the University of Carthage (Tunisia), Al-Nahrain University (Iraq), and the University of Cologne (Germany). The event also included discussions with NGOs, experts, and professors from partner universities through various lectures, online workshops, and group discussions.
