Our 22nd Global Management Meeting of ALTANA has concluded. What did we take with us from this event? A wealth of ideas and new perspectives for the future of ALTANA AG! The GMM was a valuable opportunity for me to see colleagues from all ALTANA divisions worldwide. It was inspiring to meet in person, share perspectives and strengthen our ALTANA leadership group. In these dynamic times, ALTANA is both performing and transforming: We are performing in a persistently challenging environment, while transforming in many areas of the company to sustain direction and success. For example, through the integration of our recent acquisitions of Von Roll and Silberline. In all of this, we can, and we will continue to capitalize on our ALTANA identity as well as on our distinct strengths—above all market leadership, innovation power and agility to act on our opportunities. With this, ALTANA is truly on the move. Our Keep Changing Agenda defines many of the transformatory steps ahead—and at the heart of this are innovation, sustainability, and people. These are the pillars of our business—and when I look at our teams worldwide: it is their passion and expertise that drives our progress. Thanks to everyone who helped make this year's Global Management Meeting again such a great event. The global race for raw materials is accelerating—strongly driven by the decarbonization of economies. The dependence on imports, often from a single third country, makes the #EU highly vulnerable to supply disruptions. For the chemical sector and companies such as ALTANA AG, the reliable access to raw materials is crucial to producing the products that are essential across nearly every industry—from automotive to construction, from electronics to consumer goods. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗮𝘄 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀? It’s encouraging to see policymakers and business working together to tackle these challenges—such as yesterday’s high-level Raw Materials Congress “Towards Raw Materials Sovereignty”, presented by the Federation of German Industries (BDI - Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie e.V.) in Berlin. First steps have already been taken: the EU Critical Raw Materials Act aims to promote innovation along the entire value chain, boosting research and development of alternative materials. The chemical industry is already making significant contributions to resilience: one key to a higher degree of European raw materials sovereignty is to fully leverage the potential of recycling raw materials or to replace critical ones with new, replaceable alternative solutions. For example, our ECKART division, a leading manufacturer of effect pigments, is already developing products that are based up to 100 percent on secondary aluminum. Working closely together with customers and raw material suppliers along the entire supply chain, we are enabling more sustainable products. Our BYK Additives division, on the other hand, developed a family of surface additives consisting of 100 percent renewable, plant-based raw materials—another major step forward for more sustainable products. These initiatives show that raw materials resilience is part of our daily work and life. #Together, we can pave the way for a more sustainable and resilient future.

The German chemical industry is at the crossroads. What needs to be done to keep one of the country’s key industries competitive in a global market? This was at the center of the inspiring, high-level chemical industry summit organized by German Chemical Industry Association VCI yesterday. “We need to dare a new beginning now“, said VCI President Dr. Markus Steilemann. And I believe that the summit was an important step. The very fact that both German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Minister of Finance, Christian Lindner, as well as opposition leader Friedrich Merz joined the event, is a great signal. Following a hands-on approach, our industry is asking for competitive energy prices, cutting back bureaucracy, a more competitive tax regime, an industrial #EU deal and investments in education & infrastructure. Among these, three topics were of particular interest: #Innovation: „Innovation is and remains one of the main reasons for Germany’s success as a world-leading export nation“, Chancellor Olaf Scholz pointed out in his opening remarks, reminding us that German companies and the public sector invest more than 120 billion euros annually in R&D. Yes, innovation is of importance, especially for the specialty chemicals sector of our industry. However, R&D can only result in sustainable market success if the resulting product and solution offering is competitive. And that needs a supporting environment in Germany and the EU. Bureaucracy & #deregulation: In a recent poll, two thirds of VCI members called bureaucracy the most burdening issue. At the summit, political leaders agreed, promising to further expedite planning and approval processes and to curb domestic legal additions to EU regulations, for example. #EU growth deal: On its path to sustainability, Europe’s chemical sector is undergoing a fundamental transformation, which will only succeed if the EU’s Green Deal becomes a growth deal. This requires a new industrial policy by encouraging more R&D, tax incentives to invest as well as competitive energy prices, the sufficient supply of sustainable energy, and direct public investments both in infrastructure and education. It was encouraging to see that this summit addressed a wide range of challenges with an open mind, showing that our industry is committed to a “can-do“ approach when it comes to resolving the current structural shortfalls of Germany’s economic framework for the chemical industry. We would like to thank all our employees for their commitment. 🙌 Together, we are driving forward the development of our products that contribute to a sustainable future and can change entire markets.
Two great reasons to celebrate in China! This week, I had the pleasure to travel to Zhuhai together with my colleague Volker Mansfeld as well as the ELANTAS management team under the leadership of Ravindra Kumar. As part of our trip, we had the opportunity to celebrate two important milestones with the local team, customers, business partners, and local authorities. 20 years of #ELANTAS Zhuhai: Since 2004, this site has become one of ALTANA's most important hubs in China, alongside Tongling and Shanghai. This success is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our colleagues in Zhuhai. Congratulations on two decades of innovation and profitable growth! At the same time, we inaugurated our new state-of-the-art wire enamels manufacturing facility. This was our largest investment project to date in China and is at the same time nothing short of the largest, most efficient as well as most sustainable wire enamels plant in the world. Instead of using natural gas, the process heat will be generated by green power. And the manufactured products are essential materials for electrical components that enable e-mobility as well as the green energy transformation of the world. These milestones would not be possible without our dedicated people. At ALTANA AG in general and our Zhuhai site in particular, they make the difference. And this new site is a testament to our trust in our colleagues and our shared vision for the future. I wish everyone at the new production facility all the best and much success. And I thank the ELANTAS China team under the leadership of Liu Linbao, Ye Lixin as well as Keith Wang for their contribution, innovative strength and entrepreneurial spirit that has been the foundation of our market leadership in this country. #WeAreALTANA
