AMCHAM IN THE PRESS: On the occasion of the new U.S. administration in Washington, D.C., our President Simone Menne has conducted a series of press interviews in the past few days. As Simone Menne says in the German newspaper BILD: "President Trump is an experienced politician and knows that Germany's trade volume with the U.S. of around €255 billion last year is important for both partners. Germany is a very important market for many U.S. companies, and German companies play a major role with their exports to the U.S." Some highlights for further reading and listening (in German): 🔵 Deutschlandfunk: "Deutsch-amerikanische Freundschaft trotz Trump?"

Yesterday, we hosted our first New Year’s Reception in 2025, organized by our Regional Chapter Baden-Württemberg. Over 150 members and other stakeholders from politics and the transatlantic business community gathered at BW-Bank in Stuttgart to ring in the new year. Our Regional Chapter Chairs Dr. Michael Arnold from Gleiss Lutz and Oliver Karpf from Bankhaus Metzler welcomed all our guests and set the stage for more transatlantic dialogue and activities in Stuttgart and beyond in the weeks and months to come. In his welcome message, Dr. Ulrich A. Sante, Ambassador (ret.), Vice Chairman of the Landesbank Baden-Württemberg, emphasized the strong relationships between Baden-Württemberg and the United States and framed the epochal shifts currently taking place in the international system, in which businesses and politics will have to operate in and adapt their business models to. He expressed his strong belief that joint values, such as democracy and the rule of law, should continue to provide the common basis for the transatlantic partnership. On behalf of the state government, Thomas Strobl, Deputy Prime Minister and State Minister of the Interior for Digitization and Municipalities of the State of Baden-Württemberg, touched on the economic and political challenges that lie ahead for Germany and the need for the new German administration to tackle these after the federal elections in February. He also highlighted the deep economic and military connections between Baden-Württemberg and the U.S., noting his conviction that continued cooperation and investments in our joint security will help weather crises in the years ahead. U.S. Consul General Brian Heath from U.S. Consulate General Frankfurt focused on the strength of the economic, security and technology pillars of the transatlantic partnership in his remarks. He emphasized AmCham Germany’s crucial role in advocating for favorable investment conditions in the transatlantic marketplace, noting the huge importance of trade and investments, especially in light of the fact that the U.S. became Germany’s largest trading partner in 2024. A big thank you to all our speakers, guests and in particular our Event Partner LBBW for hosting us once again for our New Year’s Reception in Stuttgart!
